Hello. 2017 Tacoma SR5 here. I upgraded the wheels and tires (17” TRD Sport Wheels and 265/65/17 Kumho Crugen H51 tires). I purchased new/refurbished Toyota TPMS sensors for alloy wheels from eBay. I then went to PepBoys to have everything installed.

I kept the old tires, wheels, and sensors as a complete set so I can either reuse or sale. Everything is still mounted and ready to go.

The problem - PepBoys doesn’t know how to program the new sensors. I went to my local Toyota dealer and they want $200. (!!!)

I’ve now purchased the ATEQ TPM QuickSet device. I’ve installed the software on my PC and it says it’s updated the database. Fortunately, I took pictures of the sensors so I have their serial numbers but I will have to determine which sensor is in which wheel.

    The problem/questions:

Will the ATEQ enable me to re-program the TPMS sensors into the ECU?

When I connect the ATEQ to my OBDI, no lights flash on the ATEQ as expected.

Also, there is no 2017 Tacoma listed in the ATEQ software. There is a 2015 Tacoma. There is also a 2017 Tacoma Hi and 2017 Tacoma Lo but I don’t know what these mean.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Pep boys should have a trigger tool (a handheld tool that you point at the valve stem). It will activate (wake up, trigger, initialize) the sensors and read the ID numbers.

Enter those numbers into the ATEQ program on your PC and upload them onto the QuickSet tool. Then connect the Quickset tool to your OBDII port.

It works on my 2016 if I do everything right. I don't remember which model I chose in the software.

In the picture, 107C953 is the correct number to enter into the QuickSet program. If your sensors don't look like the picture, you probably got the wrong ones.IMG_0397.jpg

Thanks for the info. Do I understand correct that something has to be activated on the sensors - they’re not already emitting a signal?

Most sensors are shipped in a "sleep" mode to preserve the battery. So generally they need to be activated. I don't know if these specific sensors definitely need to be activated or not.

Can you confirm that the ATEQ TPMS QuickSet device works with the 2017 Tacoma? I can't get the QuickSet to show any signs of life when I connect it to the OBDII port on the taco.

I can't. Do you have the key in the ignition on position (truck not running) before you connect the QuickSet?

It works with the 2017 Tacoma. When you get the device you need to update the drivers and the tool itself. In my case my netbook would not communicate with the device and all attempts to update drivers were pointless. I used my wife’s laptop and all went perfectly. I had to update the quickset software on her computer to the latest version IIRC.

Once setup with your computer and having the updates done take the device to your truck. Follow their procedure for downloading the current sensor ids from the vehicle. Go back to your computer and verify you have them downloaded and then print the ids off as recommended. Then take your new ids and enter them into your quickset software in the computer. Make sure your downloads and manual entry are in the correct summer or winter positions in the software.

You then upload the new ids into the correct slot in the quickset device. Updating is easy just follow the manufactures instructions.

Thanks - that makes sense. I'm still experiencing two problems though:

    1) When I attempt to setup the "new vehicle" in ATEQ TPM QuickSet Basic - Version 3.05 Beta 1, I don't have options for a regular 2017 Tacoma. Please see screenshots.

    2) I don't know if this is related to point 1 above, but when I connect the ATEQ TPM QuickSet to the Taco's ODB2 plug-in, the ATEQ TPM QuickSet never shows signs of life - no flashing lights.

Those are NEW categories. Basically just allow you select alloy or steel etc as descriptors I am assuming. Choose any as long as it is 2017 Tacoma.

If there is one complaint everyone makes it is the lack of feedback from the actual unit itself when plugged into the obdII port doing the swap. I can’t remember exactly if there is a light showing power but there is nothing that shows that the swap was successful. That’s why you MUST print out the id’s as a backup. You can always manually re-input the id’s to the software if things go wrong.

I am swapping to summer tires within the next month so I will try to confirm the procedure then.
