    G'day all,

Request Advice/Recommendations for TPMS Diagnostic & Service Tool, like Autel TS508

This is an attempt at being proactive.

I have two Toyota vehicles, 2013 Rav4 and 2018 Tacoma OR. The 2013 is going to need new sensors any day now since the suggested sensor battery life is approx 10 years. And I would do all four.

Pretty sure I will get a 2023 Tacoma in April.

Prior to receipt of the 2023, I will replace the existing aftermarket wheels and tires on the 2018 Tacoma with the stock wheels, tires and tpms sensors (sensor reprogramming necessary).

With receipt of the 2023Tacoma I will replace the stock wheels and tires with the after market set from the 2018 (sensor reprogramming necessary).

It appears the price tag of $265 for Autel TS508 or similar tool would be less than the cost for the local tires shop do the swapping and reprogramming for both vehicles.

    Is there a smarter way?

    Thanks for reading
    Bob

I used the Autel TS508 tool to program the new sensors to my truck via the OBD port when I got new rims, tires, sensors. The tire shop I went to was a bit confused on programming the sensors to the truck since it wasn’t theirs and the dealer wasn’t any better and wanted me to buy new sensors for like $600. So I got the Autel tool, and 5 minutes later, it was done. But I doubt I’ll ever use it again.

Buy a Tactrix cable, search here for techstream and you're good to go. I use techstream for all my diagnostic Toyota needs including tpms programming and I even swap out tpms sensors myself at home. Saves money, headache, and I know it's done right.

Yep, this right here. Buy a good cable (I also have the Tactrix and strongly recommend it over the cheap Amazon cables) and use a bootleg Techstream solution to do your ECU programming.

Just found a local classified with an Autel TS508 for a good price. I'm not familiar with these tools and I'm wondering if this will be what I need for my situation.

I have a a 2023 Tacoma with stock wheels and sensors for my summer wheels. Then I have my winter wheels with sensors from my old 2016 4R. I do my own tire changes and nothing is reading on my truck and I can't seem to reset even the stock wheels. Will this tool allow me to swap back and forth (I don't want to go to the dealer each time I change or rotate my tires)?

4R sensors will not work in the 3rd Gen Tacoma TPMS system, been there and done that.
Best way is to get clone sensors using the four 3rd Gen Tacoma sensor ID# for the 4R wheels and when you swap wheels you follow the Om about the TPMS button by your left knee.
I have three wheel sets for my ‘17, one OEM set with OEM sensors and the other two TRD wheel sets with Autel315MX sensors using the OEM sensor ID# so the truck only knows and see four numbers.
