Truck and tires(KO2) are 7 years old/39,000 miles...yeah, yeah, I know; 6 years is the expiration for tires.

Anyway, I'm getting ready to throw on some new tires and was wondering if I should go ahead and replace the TPMS. Battery life expectancy estimates are anywhere from 5-10 years. Just wondering what kind of life I can truly expect out of my current sensors from those with experience. I expect 6 years with the new tires; so 13 years on the original TPMS if I roll the dice.

Also, I prefer getting my tires mounted and balanced by the dealer.
Think they'll be willing to install genuine Toyota sensors I purchase online? Trying to save a little coin...

I believe in the don’t fix it until it’s broke mantra. Why replace if they still work properly? TPMS sensors can last 13 years.

15 years no problem, I'd personally leave them.

Our TPMS tool can alert us to the battery condition, maybe ask them nicely to check real quick?

Neat; I did not know that.
I was hoping the estimates posted online were conservative.
Thanks. I really appreciate your input.

I was planning on getting Denso, but hadn't yet priced them.
I did not know there was a distinction between Toyota OEM and Denso, or that the cost difference was so great.
    Thanks.

I've read enough tales of TPMS whoas on here to 'trust but confirm'...one of the reasons I prefer the dealer to perform the mount and balance.

    Good stuff guys.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Based on my '06 TRD OR I would expect at least 10 years. By the time I sold it in late 2020 all (4) had been replaced. I nursed a few along for a year or so as they worked fine during short trips but if I drove for an hour or more the sensors would stop responding. After a good night's 'sleep' they would work fine the next day. That didn't start occurring until about 10 years old.

    I had an '07 I sold in '15; never had a problem.
So if I read you right, you went about 12 years before they only worked intermittently? My average maximum drive time is about 30 minutes; commuter/work truck...

It's becoming clearer and clearer, it won't be a concern during the life of my next set of tires.

I replaced the sensors on my 2016 when I put new tires on last year. I got them (and the tires) from Tire Rack. They are identical to OEM.

I sold the old sensors on this site.

Right now OEM sensors will cost you about $250. Rolling the dice who knows how much they will be in 4 years. Maybe $1000 at the current pace? Plus you will have the cost of breaking down the tire to get the new sensor back in and it should be rebalanced. You are probably looking $30-50 per wheel to do that after the install. Maybe more if you are going to the dealer.

Personally I would go aftermarket Pacific Industrial or denso (Pacific Industrial makes the sensor that denso sells to toyota). In reality there are a number of aftermarket sensors that would work. It just needs to broadcast on the correct frequency, but I'm guessing if the OP is going to the dealer for a basic tire install and balance that they probably are not interested in generic parts.

In this case, i would roll the dice and go with what is in there. Chances are good that they will outlast the tires.

Inflation is a good point to consider, but I'll be basically in the same boat after 6 years with the new tires if I replace them now. If I can get 13 years out of the OEM sensors, I'll be happy.

I'm starting to have issues in the colder weather with (I think) one of mine. Started late winter on mine but got better with the warming temperatures. I've got a sensor with a weak battery. I have the id's but how do you tell which wheel it's on? I have a 2016.
