Vermont law now says if your car/truck came with TPMS they must be working to pass state inspection.

The shop I use told me it would cost $200 to replace the two that don't work. This is a shop that I trust and like working with.

Is there any way around this? I read one post about removing the ECU from behind the radio. I assume this turns off the warning light but will it get me pass inspection. I was also told you could put new sensors in pressurized container that you carried with the truck. Would this work?

I can think of a lot of better things to spend $200 on, especially since they never really worked.

Do you have a set with sensors in them?
I just put my summer tires in the back, got inspected at the dealer when they replaced my rear springs.
    No problems.

Sorry, I should have read that closer, if two don't work I don't know what to tell you.

There is no legal way to do what you are asking. There are several threads on what you are asking if you use the search feature. :D

Thanks for the responses. At this point the best I have been able to do is find some used sensors. The shop is willing to reprogram the computer and put them in, if they are still working.

Such a pain in the butt.

This fall I had my frame under coated by Toyota and they loan me a 2014 Tundra with eighty miles on it. Guess what? When I got in to leave the TPMS was on.

I plan on driving my 2007 tacoma until it dies. I am going to be dealing with this TPMS for a long time.

    Thank you state government.

OP... go to a shop for inspection that doesn't care... PA fusses over the same issue.

...my inspection guy does not worry about trivial things (1 man garage, sole proprietor). Find one for yourself, yours seems to be getting greedy

That's a pretty aggravating thing to deal with. This is off topic but OP I am moving to Vermont soon as much of my family lives there. As far as inspections go I read that your tires must not stick out past your fenders. Is this strictly enforced? Mine do protrude but not too far so I was jw if it will be a potential problem.
    Thanks!

I live in Vermont and am currently going through this issue. If I were to buy new tires, would they come with TPMS?
