TOYWERX Custom Overhead Console

I've been kicking around the idea of producing an overhead console that would be a direct replacement for the stock one.



Got a spare stock one quite some time ago & it's been sitting around collecting dust.

I paid a visit to an old friend who owns a precision sheet metal shop last week & while there I realized how simple a piece this would be based on some of the other products they create.

My thoughts are to relocate & reuse the stock overhead map lights but add a recessed switch area & maybe a provision for a CB.

The unit would be aluminum & powder coated to either match or complement the interior...

I'm open to suggestions as this is just a concept as of now.

Thanks for posting! Something like that but with the switches recessed higher into the unit is what I had in mind.

 

What do you mean by a CB mount? A place to fit an entire radio in or a plug in for the mic with attachment?

Subd for more info from everyone including OP. I would like to be able to use the overhead for more than sunglasses (I do not wear sunglasses).I also do not use a CB.

 

Another thought was space for a small monitor for either a reverse mount cam or an underbelly cam for off-roading.

 

I have a pretty slim CB, a

$65 Uniden Pro520XL Pro Series 40-Channel CB Radio. Compact Design. ANL Switch and PA/CB Switch. 7 Watts of Audio Output and Instant Emergency Channel 9. - Black

Uniden Pro520XL, and I'm not sure how well it would fit up top while keeping the stock electronics in place. I would be totally down for a plug and play replacement that kept the compass/temp gauge and map lights but added switches and some sort of provision for a CB. I would think just a storage spot for the mic and an integrated 4-pin female-to-female adapter to allow a extension to be ran to the radio would be great.

 

Also maybe something that would hold in a switchpros switch panel?

I'm hoping to develop something that's customizable for a few different configurations.

 

That would be great. I'd like to keep one of those storage cups, but switches or a radio would be handy.

@HomerTaco I would like to see something "plug and play" for a 2012 tacoma over head console unit.

a place where I can mount switches is a stealthy but neat and easily accessible location, with map lights maybe and an option for red illumination, also very nice if keeping one of the sunglass cubbies.

I have the cobra 75 and keep the sending unit under the drivers kick panel so for my personal preference I would not keep my cb up top there, but its not a bad idea albeit.

maybe the front facing section that runs parallel to the windshield can scoop down in a slight way leaving space for a recording device in a very discreet way, as dash cams become better and cheaper and obvious that we could all benefit from (I do not have one myself yet, but really want one when I see crazy things go down always unexpectedly of course)

 

Just for those that can't imagine having the CB up top. Granted this isn't a normal small form factor CB, Anytone Smart CB. I ran an extension down to the center console for the mic to plug in.
