anyone running them? Looking at BOSS coil overs from them to replace some very tired SAW coil overs.
Could rebuild my SAW's but looking to try something different. Price is in my range and includes remote reservoir as well as mounts. I am also looking at fox2.0 but they don't have a remote reservoir or mounts until I add $$.
Looking for feedback from those whom have used them or are still running them.

    Thanks!

Not trying to dissuade you. But the Toytec ultimate boss coilovers are SAW coilovers.

If you're going to spend that much on coilovers save up a few hundred more and get Foxes or Kings - I think it's a waste to buy so-so shocks for retail prices.

    Toyota's are awesome
Which coilovers are you referring to? Our 'Performance Boss' coilovers are made by Radflo not sway a way. Pm me if you have any questions.
For the 2004 Tacoma we have a few different options, and i can go over a few of them with you if you would like? As far as our Boss suspension coilovers go we have the regular 2.0 or our newest 2.0 with resi and adjusters for the front. Both are our Toytec branded systems. We do also carry other brand such as KING.

No worries fellas. I am just looking for real world experience on these. FOX and KINGS are well known reputable shocks and carry a premium price tag, and its warranted. However for me to get a remote reservoir shock from them I am looking at a $1500 buy in. At that point I might as well go full OME and replace all my tired springs.
I do use my truck for towing and need to ease off on the bashing to make it last, but when I see an open wash or sand dune, my foot takes over.
I bought this truck used with SAW's on it and they worked good for me, however they have been neglected as I found out when one blew and I removed it. They need some love to say the least.
I have talked to Accutune about rebuilding and Toytec today about their Coil over and both have been extremely helpful. Just looking for user experience to help me round out my spend.

Toytec- 2.0 based shock with reservoir and adjustment. Rebuild-able. Reputation-not much real world feedback as I can tell. Price is lowest.

Fox- 2.0 non resi is second lowest in price. Rebuildable. Black, Reputation- well known and good CS from what I have seen. Seem to be built better than KING's but have smaller reservoir so may fade faster.

KING- 2.5 non resi is close in price. Rebuildable. Blue. Reputation- well known and good CS from what I see.

I may have missed something but what I am working with so far

Just swapped out my crappy spacer and block lift that came with truck for the boss coilover kit with add a leafs. I love the ride!! So much smoother. I think you'll be happy with them

King doesn't have any build quality issues that I know of and when considering the applications they make suspension parts for, it's hard to get a better reputation - nothing wrong with Fox, but you won't be getting a better product - just a universally recognized name. Since the job of a reservoir is to hold more oil for to reduce shock fade and 2.5's hold a lot more, I'd go with 2.5's w/o resi's before getting any 2.0 shock / coilover with a reservoir assuming the build qualities are the same which they are between Fox and King. If you're just romping once in awhile in a wash then the non-resi's would be fine. Toytec's would be an upgrade from where you're st since your shocks need a rebuild, but spending $1k on 2.0 coilovers doesn't make sense to me when you can get some 2.5's for the same price. FWIW I have King 2.5 8" coilovers on my 2nd gen and will be looking for some used kings for my first gen until I overhaul the front.

The nitrogen and oil cavities are separated by an internal floating piston (IFP) in the resi. Valving is what heats the oil up. The more valving you have (the thicker the shims), the more friction it creates and the hotter the oil gets. The more oil you have in a shock, the less shock fade. Nitrogen pressure is what aids in pushing the IFP back during rebound. The reality is you can adjust the nitrogen and valving to suite your needs. The higher pressure you charge a shock, the more succeptable the nitrogen is to blowing through the IFP and mixing with the oil cavity which causes a hydrolock

So more oil trumps higher pressure and higher pressure has more chance or failure is what I read. Guess Blue is calling.....

Still not much info on the ToyTec's?

Correct, but there is more to it than that. Fox uses steel resi bodies instead of aluminum like King. Both use aluminum IFPs. Aluminum expands faster than steel as the temperature rises so the fox piston actually creates a better seal with heat allowing for higher nitrogen cavity pressures.

Believe me, I could talk all day about differences in shock brands. My personal preference is based on customer service and domain expertise. Regardless of what brand you buy, you are in awesome hands if you buy from Toytec.

And I honestly wouldn't bother with a 2.0 coilover. Tacomas are fat pigs once outfitted, by comparison. 2.0s are really hard to tune and 2.5's have over 50% more oil volume.

May go Fox after all, found a set for $775 which seems pretty well priced for my use. Towing, hauling, daily driving and occasional desert play.

While I agree to go with 2.5 shocks for all reasons stated, 98% of TW will never overheat a 2.0. The new toytec 2.0 with adjustable resi is a great deal for anyone besides the 2% that pushes hard enough to get the buna seals to melt out. Or even puts temp indicators to see how warm they are actually getting.

Edit: a 2.5 also will have longer service intervals but they don't last for 100K like everyone wants to think. If it's not leaking it ready to run, right?

I have one coil over taken apart in my garage now to match up seals to rebuild them for toytec customers that need it.

FYI Fox factory series are aluminum resi with a plastic IPF now. Kinda a pita since they didn't included threads to pull the damn things. That includes all their bolt in shocks. The race stuff is still steel body/aluminum IPF.

Great info. I realize I'm not the normal TWer. I can look at a 2.0 shock and it just shits the bed. But I'm also a shock snob and I could never get a 2.0 valved to the point where I was happy, so I don't work on them anymore.

All great info, but now I am scared to buy any shock!! Alot of money for a piece that still needs tuning. Dialing in height would probably be extent of my "tuning",

I do not plan on tuning it as I do not race nor plan on making the Tacoma heavy as I need to preserve payload. Now I am thinking I am in wrong market for my purpose? I was looking at coil overs because that is what was on truck(SAW) when I bought it and they handled well. I do have upper control arms ready to go on too.

Maybe the OME kit is more for me, it can haul weight and it sounds as if coil overs are a waste if I cannot commitment to properly tune them? I can get complete suspension upgrade for price of coil over set

So much to consider when using truck daily and for work as well as travels.

    Appreciate all the knowledge shared.

Tuning is optional. I prefer to get the most out of my shocks. The biggest advantage of a quality replacement shock is the ability to have it valved for your rig and driving style/preferences.

Some places will tune your shock to be close to where you would need it when you buy it from them. @Downsouth Motorsports offers this service I believe. By the time you're really going to notice you'll need a better rear setup. Most people stay away from the shackle lift route in favor of a spring pack that will lift to where you need with a stock length shackle and get better handling results from it too.
