Toyota's VIN decoder doesn't give bed length on DCB.

The used car guys don't have a fricking clue when it comes to Taco transmissions and configurations. Automatics are frequently listed as MT, and DCB is frequently listed as AC. So I use Toyota's VIN decoder to find out the truck's actual configuration. The one thing the decoder doesn't give is bed length!

Can you tell from the VIN if a DCB is a 5 or 6 foot bed? And if so which digit gives that info?

Mostly no. The dufuses that list the trucks put up crappy pics that don't show the bed in perspective. So you can't really tell if it's a short or long bed. I was hoping that the VIN would sort it out before I bothered to go and look at the thing!

I have to have a long bed. A 5 foot bed won't cut it!

The toyota dealer that I bought my 15 from (used) priced it as a ACSB and its a DCLB. I never interrogated the VIN, but I did mention it to the sales person when we were signing the paperwork. He was un-amused.

What is a ACSB? All Access Cabs are Long Beds (6'). Only way to have a SB is to have a DC Double cab.

This is true. I thought there were some of the late years of 2nd gen that were SB but I am wrong. In any case, it was priced almost $4k under market value and was not advertised as a LB, only a TRD Sport.

I bought mine used from a Ford dealer. They advertised it as having the Offroad Sport package, as the original owner had replaced the bedside decals with ones that said that. Behind the rear seat I found a box with new OEM sport decals in it.
I do quite a bit of research on a vehicle before I go to look at it, so I knew such package didn't exist, and new what it was based on grill surround, DCLB, and other things. Eventually the guy trying to sell the truck said he'd just sit back and let me look it over as I knew what I was looking at and he didnt.

Long story short, the answer seems to be no.

I didn't know that, so I checked it out: Fuel filler on the short bed is maybe 8 inches from the cab where on the long bed it's more like 18 inches from the cab. Thanks!

If it's a LB the decoder should provide this info:

I've also used the gap in front of the fender flare. On a SB there is basically no gap. LB is 8-10"

I'll be damned! The decoder I'm looking at on Toyota's website doesn't give that info. What's the URL for your decoder?

That's the same one I use! I plugged my 2010 Taco's VIN in and this is what I get. Of course all ACs have a long bed, so maybe they don't mention it. Last week I put the VIN of a 2018 DC short bedTaco.jpg in and it didn't give the bed length. Maybe it only gives the bed length if it's a long DC. As soon as I find one I'll check it out.

I just tried out my 2015 DCLB VIN and it did not specify bed length in the description or the list of options.

I forget now, but that does sound familiar. I believe the default specs are not noted - as the others mentioned, AC's only have one bed length so makes sense there is no mention of it. And with DC's I think the short bed is the default so just not mentioned and then it's only called out when it's a LB version.

If you have the time can you run the VIN through the decoder but using a real internet browser rather than a mobile one? I wonder if the mobile version doesn't output the same level of detail. Or perhaps the '12+ years don't have this info listed? They were out of my price range when I was looking so I don't remember looking any up.

I just had to know so I started looking for DCLB's on craigslist for VINs, lol.

This 2012 is labeled a LB but not in as many places as it did with my truck. I also found a 2015 DCLB sport and it displayed just like you see below.
    upload_2020-10-1_7-6-42.jpg

Via the mobile version it also shows this vehicle as a LB but just not where you were looking - you need to scroll down a little further:

Those fields were mostly empty for me. Still on mobile browser, though.

Just checked on chrome browser/windows 10, same thing. Identical info. I do know that this truck was originally sold in Canada.
