Toyota True Start battery says it is a 84 month or 7 years . Special pricing at $179.00.
84 months is impressive to me for only $179.00.
Please read the warranty and what it covers.

Did anyone install this True Start battery?

There are only one only a hand full places that make lead acid battery’s. As long as the battery is within spec it shouldn’t matter what brand. If your talking about lithium ion I have no idea.

Save Money. Buy a SAMs Club or similar 3 year replacement battery. Then do it again in 3-4 years. From my experience in extreme hot or cold temps, even garaged, that’s about the life of a good battery. Of course, just an old guy’s opinion after driving lots of cars through the years…

Not sure what the factory battery is, but 5 years on mine and still going strong. Is the factory battery a True Start?

Nope. But likely similar manufacturer with different labels.

I haven't warrantied a truestart yet. So good so far.

The warranty is a little misleading like all batteries, 84 mo is pro-rated I believe. So not full cost.

It's not a bad choice. I'd consider it over my fav interstate.

this is usually the case as far as I’ve seen, and definite consideration.
To me; they’re just banking on no one is coming in for their 13 bucks or if they do, they’re still making more on the replacement.

I put a new Toyota True Start in out 19 4runner, my 18 Tacoma and my 99 4Runner. They are made by Johnson Control, same battery as an Interstate and are delivered to Toyota on the Interstate truck. Same battery, I got a discount on the battery, $129 with the core. 84 month pro rated warranty and I did upgrade to a 27F battery and tray from a 2015 Tacoma with the tow package. I just like the specs on a 27F battery for my Tacoma. Also seems to start faster, maybe because it is new.

Also, as all I've ever had to replace, pro rated batteries that failed are discounted against the "retail" price of a replacement battery.

If you were to buy a SAM or Costco battery every 3 years? You will pay more the Toyota True Battery. & (Install once) .
Yes the battery is pro-rated. And I believe if the battery dies early, Toyota offers a free tow, I need to re-read this part.

The part that may or may not be important is the battery was and is design for Toyota cars and truck specs.
Which I found kinda unique coming from a car manufacturer.
The same way Toyota builds there spark plugs.

I did own a interstate 84 month battery and it did almost the full 84 months. Powerful and long lasting. Nice to hear it made have been made by the same battery manufacturers.

A little late to this party, but I just had Toyota dealer install True Start 27F in my 2008 Tacoma V6 with tow package to replace same battery which lasted 6 years 6months.
Price was $153 + $15 for installation. Old battery load tested at 590/710 CCA and 12.47 volts and was starting and running great, but given the age and cold weather coming decided to replace it.

Majority of driving was long distance which maybe helped it last so long; it has been my understanding that stop &go driving and numerous starts is hard on a battery.

For what it is worth, which may or may not be accurate, found this information on maufacturer history and more on the True Start:

Nothing unique, 90% of batteries sold in bigbox stores or your general auto parts stores are made by Johnson Controls or Exide with manufacturing in Mexico or overseas. Truestart is just another relabeled Johnson Controls battery

In our 2021 Tacoma Off Road we have a Celios lead acid battery. The truck will be two years old in a couple of months. I noticed the "Check Charging System" message and dug around trying to figure out why. Apparently the battery that came with the truck doesn't have much capacity. This is not all that surprising since that saved manufacturing costs for Toyota. Since I have a lead acid battery and Toyota sells Truestart AGM batteries I wonder if Toyota re tunes the ECU to charge the AGM batteries at the higher voltage that AGM batteries require to stay healthy. Of course I will ask Toyota but I wonder if anyone here knows. I'm afraid when talking to car dealerships I have trust issues. Any advice is appreciated.

This is so true. I did research on all this after I replaced my battery on one of my cars a few years ago. I totally got hosed.... Never again. I just saved my twin brother from the same mistake that I made when I told him that.

I agree there are only three or so battery manufactories. From what I understand is each brand are made to certain specs. Meaning same manufacturer, but can made a bit differently. Reason for the cost difference. And even quality?

You guys that are getting 60 months or more out of your batteries... HOW??? My OEM just died last month, I got 24 months out of it. My local dealer did the True Start 24F for $146 out the door, everything parts labor, disposal - everything.

I like those batteries just fine.

I think they are very good batteries.

I also like Walmart batteries just as much.

I really like that I can go to a Walmart at 9pm and warrenty a battery. I don't have to worry about the dealer only being open until 6 pm.

    Walmart is everywhere.

It's just a battery. Replace in 5 years and move on with as little hassle as possible.
