    Hi everyone,
I am new at this forum, just happen I found it searching the net on the Toyota Tacoma 2007 TRD 6 speed manual transmission.
I proudly own a T100 V6 automatic, it's getting older I am in a process to buy a newer Tacoma . I love manual transmission, but the Tacoma gear shift are harder to find. I have been looking for a while and finally I found a 2007 TRD 6 speeds, 4 liter, with almost 100K miles , access cab, in clean conditions, just the u-joints of the driveshaft they need to be replaced. price requested is 12.5K
I would like to know if anyone has experience on this 4 liter engine with manual transmission, and if this 2007 trd holds the freeway pretty well at 75 mph on 6 gear
I also would be curious to know the average MPG on freeways
    my email is flylinse1@yahoo.com
thanks again to everyone and Happy 2017 !!!

Tacomas get shit gas mileage. Buy a taco and an old corolla for gas mileage

Used 12 year old vehicles with no records are a crap shoot, even with a Tacoma.

I’d find the KBB private party value in good condition and factor in the repair costs to get a good offer price, if you’re serious.

It’ll be fine on the highway at any speed

I have a Double Cab 2009 with the V6 and six-speed. Mine was a certified pre-owned truck, I bought it a bit after that expired at 118k. I average 17mpg and drive conservatively (haven't checked just highway). I just did 80 on the Interstate today and it did fine, about 2800rpm. The sixth gear seems to be geared higher than I'd like it. Reverse gear is geared way too low, you'll go fast as hell backwards! Check out the carfax if you can, I think it's worth it.

The 6 speed manual has a design flaw in that when the clutch is NOT engaged, you will hear a chirping (throw out bearing). Read up on that and see if you hear it, you may think it is a belt but it is not! The good thing is that he chirping seems to be the worst of it, no one has reported anything catastrophic happening. It doesn't mean you have to replace the TOB. I ignore it and am happy. I still would rather have the manual than auto.

As far as reliability someone on here has a 6sp 4.0 and did over 400k with nothing major. When I bought mine last june I changed/flushed all fluids, brake, power steering, everything. This november I moved 2,000 miles across the usa and pulled a trailer weighing right under 6500lbs, just about max load for the truck. I had zero problems, loved the manual for all of the moutain passes, and averaged 11.5mpg.

I love my truck. 2007 is the earliest I'd buy because of 05 and 06 head gasket problems. 07 may not have TPMS, which I would say is a plus. 2012 I believe they added a smog pump. The biggest thing to look out for is frame rust, read up on that. That truck is probably too old for the frame recall if it needs it.

Good luck, I hated paying a lot for a used truck but it has been worth it to me. Mine still has the original U joints, so look into that... maybe the previous owner didn't lube them?

The throw out bearing chirp sucks/is annoying, and I have trouble shifting into first sometimes. I still like my 6 speed though. There’s also a timing cover gasket leak, but it doesn’t leak too bad for me. *knock on wood*

Like others have said the main issue with the 6 speed is the throw out bearing design, it's shit. There is a bandaid fix that's works alright or you can go full retard with it... anyways- The transmission overall seems reliable generally speaking... it's just not what I would consider a very smooth or gentle transmission... also the gearing is a bit strange. The jumps between gears are either too great or too small in some cases. The throw is huge even with a short shifter. All that being said, it is a truck, it does the job and I do quite enjoy driving the 6 speed. I think I've read it's the same trans they put in a certain generation v6 camaro odly enough.

for me, its all about how the 6 speed is driven, I have driven mine for 50k miles and it has never ever given me one minutes trouble... it goes into every gear nice and smooth, my son gets in it and he grinds, chunks and clunks all over town. Kinda hate to let him drive it.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
My f-150 was worse and my s-10 was in the ball park. Maybe a bit shorter.

Only two issues I ever had with mine was a stiff clutch in the cold winter before it warmed up, and sometimes having to double clutch it at a stop light to get it into first from neutral. Otherwise loved mine.

    Upgraded since then ;)

You certainly get used to it fast. It was my first truck with a standard. Coming from a buttery Honda 5 speed it was a giant change in feel.

I love my 2007 V6 6spd so far. I'd say my only complaints are that it definitely doesn't get good gas mileage around town unless I'm driving long highway miles, then it's not bad.

Second complaint is that it's not a smooth transmission and can have some jerky shifts going into 2nd and 3rd. As others said, this could be because of the long throw between each gear.

Otherwise I love my 6spd. So fun to drive, especially in the snow or just after it has rained. Lots of torque even in second gear

I bought my 08 v6/6mt 3 and half years ago with 99,500m. Since then I’ve put 117,000 miles on it with nothing more than routine maintenance. You can’t go wrong with it imo

Probably one of the worst transmissions Toyota has put out but it does the job (given that most of the manuals have been very good) . Weird gearing, crappy throw-out bearing, not much in the way of pedal feel and gets worse gas mileage than the automatic. I pretty much drive like an old man but I do tow some and I replaced my clutch at about 130,000 miles and it still had life left on it; I went ahead and had the URD bearing and sleeve installed and it seems to have helped that issue. 70mph will be 2500rpm and you'll notice decreased fuel mileage if you run it over that.

When I had my ‘06 XRunner, it felt great shifting through the gears, never had any issues at all and I was hard on the truck.

I'm surprised Honda has the best feeling manual transmission I've used thus far. Their autos unfortunately often don't follow the same path.

I’ve had my 2008 4.0 6 speed taco for almost 2 years, got it with 88k and I’ve replaced the clutch, bank 2 knock sensor, steering rack, and several idler pulleys, currently have a bad clock spring but that’s getting fixed soon. Lots of clutch chatter and it’s gets frozen when it’s cold outside. Other then that it’s a great truck and I love it. It is definitely a reliable truck
