Well, wonder how they discovered this issue?

But again, Toyota is standing behind their product.

BAJA, MEHICO -- Toyota is recalling about 381,000 Tacoma midsize pickup trucks in the U.S. because a part can separate from the rear axle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain trucks from the turd gen model years.

Toyota said in a statement Tuesday that crappy welding debris left on the ends of the axles from their cheap untrained slave labor can cause some chinesium nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off. That can cause the part to separate from the axle, which may improve stability and terrible rear drum brake performance. Vehicles with 4WD are unaffected as they can drive with the front axle after the rear end falls off, the spoke,an said.

Toyota lawyers wouldn't say if there have been any crashes or injuries caused by the problem, noting the vehicle is operating at a normal 2020+ Toyota level of quality despite parts falling off (not limited to white paint alone)

Dealers will tell you they will inspect the rear axles and tighten retaining nuts at no cost to owners. However, dealers won’t do that and simply will waste 3-5 hours of your time when you bring the vehicle in and do nothing. Expect pressure to buy a $96 air filter and a $3300 15k service package. Any damaged components will be re-painted to look as new. Customers may be notified by mail in late April, the company says.

Just think of the stuff that is built wrong that is not a safety recall that WE have to pay for.

As they are literally legally required to by the NHTSA, yes.

But would they if the government didn’t require them to issue a recall?

hmmmmm, like the hundreds of thousands of Tacomas that they knowingly shipped out and sold to people that had defective head gaskets?

I spend a lot of time under my 2022 Taco since I bought in new because I have to rust-proof it with lanolin grease. (I'm a surfer/fishermen and live a block from the ocean air/humidity). I can tell you look closely at every inch under my Tacoma and I didn't see any slag or bad welds so I guess this is only on a few? The quality of my frame looks much better than most other trucks/cars I see. And I work on a lot of family and friends cars. So this is strange.

My 2021 Sport is not on this recall...but I still had to look at the area in discussion.

The Hino read rear end was leaking? I thought Hino builds solid stuff like even commercial trucks. I think the Hino rear ends are cast in Indonesia but they are so simple so what was leaking? They under or over torqued the plugs or it was something else?

    I really liked this statement....

"Vehicles with 4WD are unaffected as they can drive with the front axle after the rear end falls off"
