So, I just purchased my first Toyota Tacoma. After moving to the DC area I found that driving my lifted 2014 GMC Sierra was not going to work out so I bought a Sandstorm TRD Sport and I love it.. On to my question/concern.

So, after receiving my $1000 military discount and talking them down on the price I was pumped and ready to finalize the purchase. Then came the bombarment of additional services they could offer. I denied the first wave and ended up in the finance office. Well, being a guy with great credit I had no concerns about interest rates and was ready to get out the door but I already felt after the initial wave of them offering me extra things and me denying them that one way or another they were going to get their money back. I had to go through Toyota Financial services to receive my military discount. The finance officer broke her little book out and said "well, it looks like for the tacoma there is no special financing but we are looking at 4.9%" I laughed and said NO D*MN way, Ill walk out right now bc I have excellent credit....she said that I can go through my bank but I'd lose my discount. So after telling her that I was not doing that interest rate she said she could talk to her manager but she could probably get it approved for 2.2% if I went with a prepaid maintenance plan which was initially priced at $1695 (5yrs/75000 miles, service interval 10,000 miles). I started to get pissed bc I then knew they were trying to make their money back but I was getting such a good deal it was making me give in....Well, I talked them down to give me the maintenance plan and wheel and tire coverage for $1400ish ($1095 for maint/$395 tires-5yrs). I knew that I could cancel and get my money back which wouldn't lower my payment but would go back toward the principle...regardless they are still getting that interest money.

Sorry, for the long thread but wanted you guys to have the back story so you could answer my question... For that price is it worth it? The dealership has free oil changes for life if I stayed in the area so after the 2 years I'd have to pay for rotations, major mileage service, and oil changes if I moved after 2 years.... And have any of you guys ever had the tire/wheel insurance and is it worth it...comes out to about $6 month for that. Ive never had a toyota or know the associate cost of maintenance for 5 years but a part of me is hard to believe it would cost over $1000+. Let me know all of your thoughts and experiences. I appreciate it and glad to be a part of the Tacoma Community.

You got robbed. go back, and cancel that maintenance plan and next time come prepared with your own financing.

So youre getting the first 4 services free with the Toyota care. Technically you would start paying with the 30k service, which I think is like 299. Then oil changes every 10k, and a 60k service which is probably another 3-400
It's probably a wash and you don't have to worry about it. I'd probably keep it.

my salesman told me a secret about these rebates. Not sure if it applies to your military one. But anyways, i qualified for a 750$ rebate due to being a recent college grad. My salesman whispered to me that i only have to finance with toyota for 3 months in order to keep my rebate. after 3 months i plan to refinace. I qualified for "their best" interest rate, which was 3.4%. Ive already been quoted for my bank to refinance for 2.4% which i what i intend on doing after 3 months. Also, there is no penalty for over-paying your monthly payment, and i plan on paying off the truck in 18 months. Either way its worth paying slightly more interest for 3 months if you can keep the rebate. Im taking his word for the "3 month secret" will have to see the fine print once it actually gets drawn up and i go to pick up my truck in a few weeks

Wait until you go to get tires......you will pay for: mounting, balancing, one alignment every 15k, tax on the entire package, and you have to do service at their shop in order to get free tires....So your new tires cost about $596 to 696 depending on the tire.....oh yes, you have to get the same tire manufacturer, same size and same tire.......Don't fall for that......

I got the maintenance package for a good APR and cancelled it. The interest on the 1,000 I got it for is like 20 a year. As opposed to the few hundred bucks off the total amount financed from the points taken off. If you drive a lot you might make it to get all the services. I calculated that I won't drive enough miles in the allowed time frame to use every service that the package comes with. You also only get an oil change every 10k miles. When sit down, look at the normal driving conditions maintenance schedule and think about it, you really aren't getting a lot for the package.

They're fucking you bro. I was financed through Toyota in their like super elite tier, or whatever it's called, and there was no stipulation that I get any sort of maintenance package to keep my rate at 2.7%.

Also, Rangers are gay. De Opresso Liber. :bananadance:

Tire and wheel covers rims. scratch the rim-any Toyota dealership has to cover rim. if you lease- it makes sense. one bad offroad experience-covers tire and rim. maintenance is extended to 5 years by any Toyota dealership, not just where you purchased . Synthetic oil- 10,000 miles, idk if there is value or not.

Wait a second so your saying that you can actually cancel the upgraded plans they try so eaegrly to get you into and that money goes back toward your principle?! I got the wheel/tire package, maintenance package and the upgraded bumper to bumper warranty when I financed.

After leaving with the truck and thinking about it a few days later I came to the conclusion I didn't really want the maintenance plan due to stories I've heard about no oil being put back in motor. Also I probably wouldn't be able to utilize the wheel/tire package since I plan to go to aftermarket wheels and tires. So can I go back to the dealership and cancel those packages they sold me?

They sent me a check. It's up to them how they want to do it. Might have been because they financed me though another bank. Who do you get your statements from?

@Kloy I financed through Toyota, interest rate was like 3.2% and while they didn't force them on me they sure know how to smooth talk you into saying yes. Lol

Would I speak with finance in getting the refund?

I financed through the dealer but my statements aren't from Toyota financial services.

Read the agreement they sent you. It involved writing a signed request to cancel the service. I think there is a limited time to do it. This is for the maintenance plan, not sure about the warranty if you didn't want to keep that.

I'll have to check on all that when I get home from work next week. I have not even gotten the payment stuff in the mail yet. Literally just bought this truck not 2 weeks ago.

    Thanks for the info!

Little update: Called Toyota financial services and the add-on packages were all through 3rd party companies, the lady I spoke with said she could give me the numbers to all the companies and I could do the leg work myself or that I could go into the dealership and talk to finance and tell them I want to be refunded for the stuff I decided I didn't want. Thinking it would be a nightmare to get them to comply with my request I went ahead and talked to a financial employee and while he did continue to try and sell them to me when I started mentioning the modifications I would eventually be doing to the truck he was lost for words other than "Yeah that would void your warranty and the tire/wheel warranty only applies to what was sold with the vehicle." Once I had him in a corner with his hand's tied persay he unhappily walked out to my truck with me to snap a picture of the mileage and proceeded to fill out the paperwork to cancel the add-ons.

He for sure was not happy lol especially when I showed him a picture of @Gramps truck and commented "this is close to what it will eventually look like, dude's truck is sick and this is the way Toyota should be rolling these off the assembly line." :boink:Did I sense some jealousy maybe?
