    Hi,

New to the Tacoma, interested in knowing what people are paying for the extended from Toyota?
My dealer wants to sell a third party 7/70 for 3k (I know). Also I tried to find the warranty information on the web and it leads to call your dealer. Does Toyota have a central number for this product?

    Thanks

I believe my Toyota direct Platinum 8yr/100k extended warranty was only like $1300 or so.

    That’s about what I paid.
Being a new model Tacoma in 2016 when I purchased mine, I thought it couldn’t hurt having the added protection on a new model just incase there were any issues. No issues to date

$1300 for 8yr/110k seems very reasonable. My guy wants $3,000 for a 7yr/75k and $100 per visit (after factory warranty) if it's at another dealer. They will negotiate down to about $1800 but it's still 3rd party. Seems like I can do better for the money. Thanks for sharing, anyone have a phone number to call to get this product?

Hell to the no, thats way too much. Don't buy a 3rd party warranty, do a search on dealers you can buy a Toyota Platinum warranty from for a good price.

Can I ask why you would want to part with your hard earned money on an extended warranty, especially a 3rd party one? They are a huge money maker for the dealer. Read up on the obscene commissions paid to dealers and salespeople to push sales. Extended warranties are only a good deal for the people selling them. Toyotas are very reliable vehicles, 70,000 miles is nothing on new vehicles today, even domestic. I have a friend that works for a GM dealership and he makes a cool $500 for every sale of Ext warranties he makes, add in the commission for the dealership, insurance rep, and the company profit, and you get an idea how much of your premium actually goes into servicing your car. Save your money and use it to reduce your downpayment, or take a nice little vacation with the money you saved.

Don’t do it, these trucks are TANKS if you take care of them and do regular maintenance etc.

Come on guys, do your research before buying. Extended warranties, along with “paint protection” gap insurance and wheel insurance is where the Finance guys/girls make their living. Don’t buy the overpriced extras. You hopefully worked hard to negotiate a price prior to getting in to Finance. Don’t let it all go to waste by tacking on thousands of unnecessary extras in Finance.

I never buy extended warranties on anything. Statistically the warranty company make a lot of profit. The key is having savings and self warranting.

I discovered that the same insurance company that the dealership uses for these type of warranties, are the same ones calling you personally when your warranty is about to be expired. Their rates are way lower and affordable, obviously, Toyota gets a piece of the cake if you get it thru them. If you really want the warranty, ask Toyota what insurance company they are using and call them yourself.

When I picked up my new truck this past Wednesday, the finance guy tried the extended warranty spiel on me; $3,000 for the works. I smiled at him and told him I'd take my chances. One reason is I know the quality of Toyota. The other reason is TacomaWorld; you guys make everything easy-to-fix if it ever were to break! :)

The Platinum warranty on my 2011 worked out great. They replaced my transmission one month before the warranty ran out. I got it from Jerry at Midwest Toyota in Kansas. 800-530-5789 or 620-664-8844. You can get it at any dealership and use it at your dealership. I just got one for my wife's Sequoia.

Get ahold of Jennifer Taylor in finance at Wolverine Toyota in Michigan. You can get the top Toyota Platinum Plus 125K miles 10 year warranty for a lot less then that.

I normally do not buy extended warranties, but I did for my 2020 Tacoma Limited. I bought the Fidelity Platinum warranty from a Toyota dealership online. The warranty is a 7 year/100K/0 deductible warranty which cost $1299.00.

It is a 3rd party warranty and essentially you are paying for (4) extra years coverage after your factory warranty expires. The cost for the 4 extra years of coverage amounts to $27.06 per month. Now a lot of folks consider it a waste of money, but some of those same folks spend $30.00 a month at Starbucks for overpriced coffee.

If you want an extended warranty, shop around, get the best price, but don’t expect the finance manager at your Toyota dealership to give you the lowest price.

I may be a sucker, but I usually always buy warranties, dent protection, etc. I live here in South Dakota, and on my 2017 (bought extended warranty and more), I also bought the hail gap coverage where they cover your deductible on claims... I need 1.5 claims in a 4 year period to make it pay off. I predict I'll make money on the deal. I've cashed in on repair warranties in the past (AC, leaks, gaskets). My past experience is that I always come out ahead on repair warranties... we shall see!

Most owners especially Toyota never use the warranties that's why the dealers sell them.

Mine paid for my third brake light leak repair, and the dealership wanted like $500 to repair that, so that's almost half the cost paid for me. Again, could've bought the parts and done it cheaper myself I'm sure, but this way it was covered for future problems. *shrugs*

It's a gamble, dealership comes out ahead most of the time I'm sure, but I didn't want to have to worry about anything with this truck. I mostly bought it expecting help if/when AC problems, or electrical problems arose.

I don't normally buy extended warranties but did on the new 2020 Tacoma (because I had to have $1600 worth of AC work done on a 2014 Lexus with 36K on the clock). My finance guy started out at 3K for the Platinum MPP warranty 7yr./75K. I kept telling him nope, nope, nope as he continued coming down in price until he finally asked me what would I pay for it. I told him $995 maybe, he showed me his cost on his computer was $1000.00 so we settled at $1001.00. He mentioned he gets credit for the unit sale not so much the price.

Just tell the guy you'll give him 1 dollar over cost and make him show you the cost on his computer screen (if you're set on getting one).
