I don't know how they calculate the dealer inventory. They say in the video that the inventory is going to rise to double the current levels from 17 days to 30. I don't know where that 17 day supply is but its not near me. There are literally 4-5 new cars on every lot near me. Are the cars that have the 10-20k market adjustments skewing the days supply by sitting on the lot? Is it the presold cars that don't get the paperwork signed for a week? Or are they actually going to only have 10 cars in stock at any given time when they get there supply up to 30 days?

When I went shopping for a new truck back in Feb, a sales person at a Toyota dealership told me that Toyota is completely happy with the current status. The only Tacoma vehicles they had on the lot were several over-priced used trucks, and two new (but sold) trucks. Otherwise what you got to see were the printed specs of vehicles that were coming in, the prices, and estimated arrival dates. From Toyota's perspective its great....low manufacturing requirements, and making money. What the dealers need to understand is that they really are not needed. My understanding is that Ford is getting ready to directly sell to the public. Why do I need a "dealer" when they have no vehicles to look at or drive?

let us just buy our vehicles online if we want. no need for a dealership these days. have centers for repairs and test drives... Tesla seems to be doing just fine with this system.

True, but I don't need to be giving them my money for a new vehicle.

    Oh look, another mod....
I'm curious where you heard this comment from, because it's illegal in many (most) states for a manufacturer from selling cars & trucks directly to consumers. Thus, the need for dealerships.

    https://www.motorhills.com/why-cant...xt=It isn't illegal for,saving a ton of money.

You can, but Tesla ships it out of state first.
    https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-texas-cars-ship-out-of-state-sell-texans-2021-6

Tesla will have to ship its electric vehicles made in Texas to other states before selling them to Texans because of state laws, The Drive first reported.

Elon Musk's carmaker is building a factory in Austin, Texas, which it expects to be finished by the end of 2021. But the firm won't be able to sell directly to residents in the state.

Texas state laws ban car companies from directly selling to customers. Instead, the companies must sell their vehicles to independently owned car dealerships, which then sell to customers.

Texas lawmakers, who only meet for 140 days every other year, decided not to pass legislation that would allow automakers to sell directly to Texans, The Drive first reported. The meetings ended on Monday without any change to the franchise laws. The next time lawmakers are scheduled to meet is in 2023.

looks like there is some loophole cause they do it..
    "
Texas customers must buy Tesla vehicles on the company's website and fill out paperwork through email. Here, Tesla remains limited to operating showrooms and service centers, such as the Dominion location."

There are other states that have laws just like Texas laws (Colorado, New York to name a few), so please...don't say "Every state" when you don't even know the laws for each state. Don't be so-matter-of-fact in your statements.

It would be totally fine with me if they had a few demos of the various models and everything was build to order. Then I can get what I want and you don’t have to play the games trying to find it. I’ve got no issue waiting the majority of the time

and they are all equally fucking dumb.

who benefits from this law? the dealers who get to rob their customers? fuck that bullshit. just another example of politicians prioritizing their lobbyists over the people of this country.

Why would the dealers want to sell more at no mark up and have to "slash prices" when they sell at $15k over market?

Take what you hear/read/watch with a grain of salt. Manufacturers are in business to sell cars and they are not going to cease production until '23 models. Supply is still low plus factory workers aren't going to take a few months off and come back when '23 production runs start.
