Group IV synthetic, not severe service? Sure.

I run 5w-20 in an engine calling for 0w-20 and 5w-30, 0w-40 and 5w-40 in the other engine labeled 0w-20. Life is all about choices. And LubroMoly.

I trade my truck in every 10k miles so I don't ever have to worry about an oil change. Problem solved. :cookiemonster:

All the products listed above are "house brands" sold at dollar stores, etc.

A better question: Is there a bad major brand oil out there?

As a general rule any national brand that carries the API symbols is fine.

You did not read the links, did you?
First was for oil sold on Amazon, supposedly API certified. Not a dollar store oil
    Screenshot_20231114-225505.png
    "
Further, although the labels on the products tested display the General Motors (GM) dexos® trademark and claim GM approval, the product is not licensed or approved by General Motors as a dexos® motor oil. Only licensed dexos® products have been certified by GM to meet the dexos® specification and display the GM dexos® trademark.x

Here is API labeled oil that does not meet the specs it claims.
Less known brand? Sure. But claims to be API oil.

Ask your local Toyota dealership what brand they use. Think it's the rebranded "Toyota" oil or another major brand they buy by the drum/truck load.
If they won’t pay the extra for it, why would you?

Yes, I did read the links. "...sold on Amazon..." isn't the strongest assurance of quality.

"GP Petrogen & Sgt.P" are not nationally marketed brands.
Products like these ^^^ are like the old K-Tel records - they were cheap because the songs were the same but not by the famous artists.

You only partially quoted me, you left out the two lines that posed a question and stated my opinion:

"A better question: Is there a bad major brand oil out there?

As a general rule any national brand that carries the API symbols is fine."

Off brand oil products can be case of buyer beware and you get what you pay for.

But what about the 1k and 5k oil change? You're missing 2, and an observant buyer will notice the lack of maintenance.

Fun story. In RI, you have to inspect your car every 2 years. When you buy a new car, you have EITHER 2 years, OR 30k miles (I think, I forget the mileage requirement) to get it inspected. However. The registration table doesn't talk to the inspection table in the database. So, when you go to register your car after 2 years, it doesn't recognize a missing inspection. UNLESS, you've already done an inspection. So, if you inspect it after 2 years, THEN after 2 years that inspection expires, the registration won't go through. OR if you buy a USED car, part of the requirements for that is an inspection, so now you're in the inspection ecosystem.

But a NEW car doesn't go in until you put it in, and the registration can go through without being inspected. So you can just never inspect a car you buy as new in RI, and reg will keep going through.

(If insurance finds out your car is uninspected, they can take that into consideration in determining fault in a collision, if it happens, so there is a reason to do it).

Coming back to Toyota oil, it is high and moly and calcium, high starting TBN (i.e. 10K miles capable of fighting acids produced by gas combustion), very good oil, capable of 10K intervals.
