Have a 2012 that I bought used, and I get this in the mail from Toyota today!! They are now covering, or extending the coverage for the possibly faulty air injection pump??? Nice to know if it ever goes out on mine, even though with the unifilter mod, they probably wouldn't... So I hope it doesn't go.... Anyone else got a letter today??

I have a 2012 Tacoma, hit a deer before our 1 year anniversary, smashed front end, radiator, airbags...a mess. So I just got it back yesterday after 5 wks (Toyota used 2013 parts on it and didn't tell anyone? Especially the airbag sensors that blew but didn't deploy, lucky for Toyota I'm ok, and not a prick) anyway, I drove it 10m and went into limp mode, air pumps. So they're telling me I have to limp 40m to nearest dealer and prove that it's having issues before they'll even order parts!? Then either limp home and back when theyre in or rent a loaner ($on me). By the way, Toyotas letter said the repair takes "approximately 1 hour", dealer said more like 1 day. So when I mentioned that limping on a 70mph highway isn't too safe/smart they suggested a tow, which I pay for as well!! But Toyota assured me I can mail in my bills for towing, rental etc and they would review it and I MAY get reimbursed. BS. I got a Toyota because of their quality, performance and especially service. Initiating recalls and standing behind them. "Putting the customer first". Sorry but this whole ordeal has been a FAIL in that respect. I miss my Jeep. This will be my first and last Toyota. After my call with toyota i felt like " hey we know you bought a lemon and we'll totally buy a glass...but youre doing all the squeezing. I apologize for the rant, just a frustrated customer to say the least. Best of luck to anyone else attempting this "customer support program"

    Workin' on it....
Good to know. I bought my 2013 used but have not seen any letter yet and while the 2012’s had issues more so than others, there are failures in ‘13, ‘14 & ‘15’s too. Hopefully they will extend that same coverage to other years also.

Call your insurance company and tell them the body shop screwed something up because you drove it 10 miles and it runs like crap. Tell them where it is and they need to pay a tow truck to take it back. They paid for the repairs and it wasn't done right.

It's an idea. I had a local bodyshop fix it up, and they did great so don't wanna put any hassle on them and they already know its a pre existing condition. Happened 5-6 x since I got it. This is Toyota's faulty part/design and they need to man up and fix it..without making the customer jump through hoops. Thanks tho, I like where you're heads at.

Oh, so it was having problems before the wreck. You made it sound like everything was fine until 10 miles after the wreck. Now I get it. Yeah Toyota needs to buck up and take care of it. Maybe ask them, "what if my catalytic convertor melts down driving that far in limp mode?"

2012 TRD DCSB OR 4X4.........I also got letter last week. Already had this problem last summer with around 65,000 miles. I only paid a 'deductible' fee of $250 at my dealership, not the $1700 it costs.

Painful for the guys that paid out of pocket to fix it before the release of the letter. But atleast Toyota did the right thing going forward.

So far I feel the 13+'s have been flukes with failures, or mostly just pump failures not necessarily the valves....like overall it is just a crappy part prone to failure even without the valve condensation issue, so out of the 100,000s made, some are bound to fail.

Usually pump failures were due to the shitty foam filter falling apart and clogging the pump. Pull out the foam and put a 1inch uni crankcase breather on it and call it good.

The valve failures were due to moisture not being blown out on shutdown. 2013+ v6 trucks have a shutdown purge programmed into them, the 2012's do not.

Mine finally died. Limped it into the dealership and they said I was covered, with the exception of the air pump. Reason why? I had modified the air pump with the UNI crank case filter. Therefore kills the warranty. I explained til I was blue in the face that I upgraded a known faulty part. did not work.

Keep the original Foam filter and the plastic cap to the pump; Change it back to OEM and your good if it should fail. I kept mine for this very purpose lol, knowing this little electrical pump will fail as all things electrical do.

Wouldn't it be best to leave it as as with the extended warranty coverage? I'd rather do nothing to extend its life until it isn't covered...then I'll either bypass or modify it.

If it's going to fail eventually why not have it happen while it's still covered?
