I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a trend in auto manufacturing. Build vehicles that can be configurable to specific needs. Or at least in vehicles like trucks that can have many different uses.

We already established that this is not what American customers want.

American customers want at least 350 hp, long travel, luxury leather interior, the ability to tow 100,000 pounds, integration with Skynet, and colors typically reserved for venomous tree frogs.

They would totally kill the Kei truck import market if they ever sold us in the US, though.

While I know you at least partially kid, I think it would be a hit, but when you have to make it so it meets all the safety requirements it will cost too much.

I wanna know why we are continuously told that you can’t make a short cab truck anymore, and GM is currently selling a short cab short bed Silverado.

Manufacturers today try to make their platforms so that they can be used across as many different models as possible to reduce costs. The same is true of frames so it may just be a case that they do not want to invest in developing something that is not widely used. I have also heard that the design process timeline between concept to finished vehicle for sale is like 7-10 years. So the car market does not always respond quickly to new "trends".

Once EVs go mainstream will be easier to have different bodies with a skateboard chassis.

As much as I like RC pickups, don’t think I can ever go back. Use my access cab cubby space on a daily basis. Was quite bummed Toyota did away with it on the 24 Taco.

Do like that IMV though, make it an access cab and take my money. This is a little too Overland Bro for me. But an access cab might be possible, note the door handle on the bottom. Access/Extra Cab 6’ bed is my favorite body configuration. Has worked for me over the last 22+ years.

Let me guess we can’t have this in the US because the EPA says a small fuel efficient truck is bad for the environment.

    And that looks like Bangkok.

I’m going to have to check it out next time I’m over there.

edit: lol it’s literally made in Samrong Tai.

Probably. Chevy and Ford still builds a RCSB , even though it supposedly doesn’t meet epa standards for the size it is.

Just goes to show you it is totally possible to build an economical truck.

Did you notice a lot of the interior buttons and controls are shared with the Tacoma? Interesting the headlights and wiper controls are reversed, perhaps because it is right hand drive.

    I drive a Miata.
This forum: "My 278 horsepower truck is an absolute dog that can't accelerate or hold 95 mph for shit."

Also this forum: "If only those 600cc garden trucks were legal here, I'd buy one in a heartbeat."

Meanwhile, in the Toyota boardroom: "horseshit. We see what you people are actually buying, and that's what determines what we sell."

Yes, I keep hitting the wiper controls when I want to turn when driving on the other side of the street.

It’s not a kei truck. The two petrol engines are a 2L and our own 2.7. I would think it would be a beast compared to my four-cylinder Tacoma because it’s not carrying all that weight around.

    lol! Right!?

Standard is 2.0 gas, 2.7 option…and a 2.4 diesel. Betting that diesel gets 30-35 mpg.

Honesty the 2.7 in the Taco is more than enough for 95% of things I do.

Ahhh ok thanks, so that is standard for those countries that drive on the “wrong” side of the road. :)

I did not see where the 2.7 was offered. Curb weight as tested was 3600 for a truck that didn't even have trim pieces covering the A pillars, which is only 400 below the average Tacoma. Mated with a trans that undoubtedly needs to handle a larger payload, I have my doubts on the pep it's going to have. For an Asian market, yeah it'll burn circles around a tuk-tuk. For US highways, it'll get squashed.

Yep, easy fix stay off the interstate. I try to avoid them at all cost. Rarely go above 50 for 95% of my driving. The other 5% top speed is 65 for Bi-Ways.

Do think most buyers are freeway blasters though. No matter how fast you go, it is never fast enough for them.

Why I have “Feel Free to Pass Me” on the back window, (just go around I am not moving ;)) not much in a hurry these days, plus get quite amused looking at people loosing their bowel control in my rear view. ;)
