I financed my Tacoma through Chase. After I paid off the loan, Chase mailed me the title. We just paid off my wife's Toyota Highlander and Toyota Financial didn't mail us the title, rather they mailed a notorized letter that basically says that Toyota "no longer has a security interest in the vehicle". We called Toyota Financial to see why we didn't receive the title and they said we have to bring this letter to our DMV to receive the title. This will cost me $65.

Is this normal when financing a vehicle from Toyota Financial?

Just paid my truck off and pen dot mailed the title to me, Toyota just sent a letter saying there was no longer a lien on it.

How long between Toyota sent the letter and pen dot mailing the title?

When I refinanced TFS was supposed to send the title to my new lender, they sent it free and clear with no liens noted or recorded etc. directly to me personally.

    So who knows?

TFS is pretty screwed up though.

Less then a week, no charge and I didn’t have to do anything either. Toyota said pendot would be sending it out.

I got a letter via mail after truck paid off... I took letter to clerk office for stamp on my title for free... No need to replace title unless you want to have own title without any bank info on it.

Somewhere along the way toyota realized instead of going to the DMV themselves they could just make you do it and save 65$

Some states probably let the dealer pass that cost on to the owner, some don't. Probably buried down in the fine print when you sign

in nys when you purchase the vehicle- you have possession on the title(with lien printed on it )when you pay it off you get a lien release from lender. In vt the lender keeps the title
