I’m sitting in the lobby at the dealer waiting for my annual inspection to finish.

The service guy came in and said to the customer next to me he suggests he gets the throttle body cleaning service for $199. Also, cleaning battery terminals for $30.

I guess it’s cheaper than the $600 front brake pads they quoted a customer the last time I was here.

That's why I don't like waiting at dealerships for service. I'd be asking too many questions of the customer after the service guy left. Wouldn't want to interfere with the dealership's ability to make $$.

Terrible, last time I was at the stealership I saw two separate service advisers bring out this fake ass staged cabin air filter. It was all filthy and looked like a nest was built into it with hot glue. It was so clearly staged I had to laugh, but some of these people took their word for it! Just terrible business...

Almost did that, but I’ve learned in my advanced age it’s often times better to say nothing.

This I do know, the service people totally make up prices, because I’ve heard all different prices for same service at various dealers.

It’s a joke I know, the cabin air filter in most cars you can replace in less than a minute, costs less than an air filter and I’ve heard upwards of $75 for the dealer to replace the cabin filter.

against the tide, but something to contemplate: businesses don't fail because they make too much money.

so when a contractor, bike shop, or even car dealership, charges enough to make money and keep their doors open, who's to blame?

if all of the good businesses fail, we're going to be left with the bums.

I’m all for the free market and capitalism, I’m a small business owner.

Just making aware of dealer service pricing.

I don’t know... after I knocked 90% of the shit off it it dawned on me to take a pic of my 2 year old cabin filter and it still looked like this (and I don’t park under any trees) it had a mound of hairy filth on it5311EE8D-E0EC-40E9-B959-3EA6BAB5AB40.jpg

Wow. 5 minutes of Youtubing, $6 can throttle body spray cleaner, baking soda, clean water, a few paper towels, and a wire brush and save $200. Plus the feeling of knowing how to do it next time on all vehicles.

Exactly! It's makes you sick thinking of some of the prices they charge for basic tasks, especially that. I want to say two months ago I replaced the cabin filters in both my truck and wife's car in under two minutes. Spent a max of 20 bucks for both filters smh...

A good business is one that treats customers fairly and at honest prices. That's how you build loyalty. Les Schwab is an excellent example of a good business. I think the dealer described by the OP would not qualify as a good business as they are focused solely on the bottom line.

I suggest sliding a piece of cardboard under the old filter before removal then pull the old one out so the mound of shit doesn’t fall into the blower motor ;) and take a pic before you knock the shit off it. You’re in for an eye popper

Trust me mine was on another level and I bought the truck new with 5 miles on it. The a/c feels colder and the air smells like a country meadow, now

;) I know, but you should have seen the panicked look in the customer's eyes.... he looked at me during the consultation shaking my head, on the way out the door following the service advisor:rolleyes: ( scam artist). He asked me what I would do.... I told him to get his keys and run away from them.
