    Hello fellow Addicts and Junkies,

Who makes the clutch kits for Toyota? From the research I have done, it looks like Aisin is the manufacturer of Toyota clutches? Is Aisin a child company of Toyota?

Is LUK considered a good aftermarket replacement clutch kit for a first generation Tacoma?

Thanks in advance for all of your replies.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

Yes. AISIN is a chid company.

I install ( had installed) an AISIN clutch kit in my 3rd gen 4Runner recently, it’s been fine, much like the original. Comes with throw out and pilot bearings and alignment tool.

I did replace the flywheel, finding a machine shop that can surface properly is a challenge these days, a brake lathe doesn’t get it

I use LUK in my former 4Runners (1st and 2nd gens) they were ok

Luk, Exedy, or Aisin all good choices.

Your choice of clutch comes down to your driving style!

The ability of the clutch to get Hot over and over and not fail is the major difference

Any new clutch is better then old and worn out .

All my vehicles have newer clutches A few Aisin one LUK in day to day use I can`t tell any difference

If I was doing another one I would look at the Marlin Crawler options

I had good luck with the Luk kit that I installed in my '94 Ranger. When the time comes to replace the clutch in my Taco, I'm going either with Luk or Aisin.

By all means, don't even consider the made-in-China kits they sell at Auto Bone and other parts stores. The quality just isn't there.

The Marlin kit is an Aisin clutch cover and Seco HD clutch disc that has double springs with metal retainers. For a daily I don't see the need for the extra $$. For an off-road truck it might be worth it.

I have been happy with my Exedy clutch for the last 6 years. It is heavier than stock but hooks up well after 50k miles of stop and go, mountain driving, and wheeling

I have another one to replace it with after burning it up with 35s on stock gears

Generally speaking, Aisin. That said, Toyota also uses other suppliers. For example, on the 2005-2015 Tacoma, Toyota used both Aisin and LuK clutches. (Also worth noting is that while the trucks all originally used the same release bearing that the TSB requires a different release bearing depending on if it uses a LuK or Aisin pressure plate.)

For the 1st gen Tacoma, all original clutches would have been Aisin.

Last I priced things they were all within $100.00 of each other .

Then I installed a clutch in the Shopping center parking lot I think the whole kit cost less then $99.00

I'm surprised that the shopping center security or the store managment didn't kick you out of the parking lot to let you work on your vehicle like that. The local auto parts store in my area all have signs prohibiting their customers from working on their cars. That being said, I've installed filters/bulbs/easy to install parts that need replacement on my truck in the auto parts parking lot and used their garbage can to dump out the old parts & packaging. I installed a gas shock for my truck camper shell in the parking lot since the old one was weak & not going up like it used to. I'm glad that you were able to install your clutch though.

Yes indeed about 1000 miles from Home .

Options were wait week to have it done. Have it towed a few hundred miles have it done in three days with the towing about $1200.00.

Time flies that was back in the mid nineties .

Now I would just have it brought home

This. I have a marlin clutch and the damn thing came with chinese bearings in it and I had to pull it all apart after they failed 2yrs after install. All OEM the next time this truck needs a clutch, and this is my offroad "toy" and spare truck.

If anyone gets a marlin clutch kit, make sure it doesn't have any chinese parts in it, mainly the pilot bearing. Dont believe their marketing...

    OME and worth every penny.
We still have an old school rebuild shop. Kind of worth it just for the flywheel turn.

Clicked on this thread expecting to find Toyota purses, came away disappointed

BTW, if you search for "Toyota purse" online, Google automatically shows pictures of Toyota Prius

    EDIT: Holy shit!

Did you notice the Chinese bearings only after the failure ??

If before why not swap them out at the install ??

I could see you being mad if in the 2 years you had less then a 1000 miles .

As many of the new Aisin aftermarket parts are being made in China will you be buying at your Toyota dealer ?
