I would push them really hard to fix the truck correctly. It’s either a procedure at that dealership or like eurowner said; an issue with a part. Someone may be taking a short cut or just missing something stupid. In the end of the day it’s fixable 100 percent . I think if it were me I would go to a different dealership. Being it’s been fixed so many times it should be warranty.

My brother's car in CA got bought back under lemon law for wind noise, hardly something Ray Charles could see. Three repairs on three different weatherstrip pieces on different doors in the first 12K miles. The dealerships in CA love the buybacks because it doesn't cost them a dime and they get to sell another car. In my brother's case the dealership suggested the buyback and processed all the paperwork on his behalf.

Hmm, well if you say so who am I to disagree. I'm not doubting you, but surely there's more to the story? Normally when I've seen or known of first-hand accounts, the problem is something extraordinarily unusual and severe that has not been resolved after many attempts to fix. CA may be much different than other states in that regard, but my default advice is: don't bet on it.

I saw an example where an acquaintance bought a new Corvette, and on the way home from delivery (it was a 100 mile drive) the entire dash and interior circuit went out. All of it. No gauges, cruise, HVAC, radio...nothing. That included the power door actuators - thankfully he had the window down so he could crawl out! A serious safety issue!

The dealer ripped out the whole dash to diagnose and thought they had the problem solved. Not so. Electric troubles came and went (and some failed hourly), not to mention the additional problems with shoddy reassembly and rattles that came later. A sub 1000 mile car that had toothpicks wedged in the side of the HVAC vents to keep them from falling into the dash and radio stations and lights that changed at will by a ghost's hand. They tried and tried to fix, but it was just an insufferable mess.

He tried to lemon it after 4x dash removal/reinstall to repair without success. In the end, he ended up waiting for a good day when everything was working properly and traded that hot mess in on something else.

Punt and move on sometimes ain't a bad way to make a problem go away. Just my two cents.

My brother’s experience with his Passat was legit, but who knows how common it is. CA does have some radical consumer protection laws compared to most states, in AZ the buyback was very rare and usually required an attorney. There were a couple dealerships in AZ that specialized in CA buyback cars, they always had plenty of inventory on cars with really nothing wrong with them. My buddy bought a car from this one, check out the miles on many of their units.

That's kinda the point of NOT taking it back. How many times should it take a certified mechanic to this work?

The truck is still in the 5 year/60k miles power train warranty. that's what they used to fix it the last time. the dealer tried to give me a hard time. but I had gotten on the phone with Toyota corp. right there on the parking lot after I dropped it off. by the time the guy came to tell me that it probably wasn't under warranty any more. Toyota was calling them.
This time. I haven't eve called the dealer about it. I just called Toyota and they open a case to get back to me next week to explore my options.
I'm looking at the 2021's just in case. they have so many different trims now, is a pain. If they give me a good price and don't try the dealer thing. I'm just going to go for a new one and hope for the best.

I have experience with the new ranger
I owned it... For about a year. As a body-on-frame truck it was heads up much better than the 3rd gen Tacoma. Gutsy. Proven to be pretty reliable. EXCELLENT power train. Deeper bed. Much better tech.

For a year of ownership of my 3rd gen I had multiple small issues that were indicated as "they all do it" before some were finally fixed and I sold it.

I then sold the Ranger to Carvana for $3,000 less than I paid for it. I was curious about the Honda Ridgeline so I went to look at it. Took one out for about a half hour. I ended up Leasing (which I now plan to buy) an RTL-E AWD. The features on the truck blew me away. Including the bed which is genius ending up in a side opening tailgate. The room behind the front seat is twice as much as a Tacoma with the seats up. Floor-to-ceiling flat space all across the cab. And the truck comes with all the safety crap in the power tailgate power back window. The tech is very good although not as smooth as sync 3 on the Ford.Smoooth..If you get car sick steer clear of the ridgeline..LOL

If you need a truck bed and a vehicle that can only tow up to 5,000 pounds with a maximum payload of 1,580 pounds with a longer bed. Does very well off-road excluding rock climbing and mudding.....mostly fire roads and desert roads it's fine. Seriously take a look at the black sheep of pick-ups....Love mine. The engine is very peppy and 9 9-speed trans is equivalent to the Ranger in operation and invisibility

Unless you've actually owned one, you don't know shit....

OK I have a Ridgeline and its not a "hobby truck" If one needs a lift that bad for off roading , better to buy a body on frame that has some flex. Would never buy the HPD version....Silly Even I a Ridgeline owner laughs at that LOL

UNLESS one wants a "tough looking" Mall crawler..Then it's probably fine.

Buying a 2021 and expecting a different meal is crazy. Maybe it's just me, but the truck hasn't changed enough to buy basically the same thing again. Sure you'll lose the current problem you're having and gain a few features, but just nope.

Thank you for the response, very informative. I've looked at the Honda on paper, I don't think you can deny Honda's reliability and workmanship and I do like their alternative thinking when it comes to what people want in a truck. The styling however is a downer for me, I just can't gt past that. I was even behind one earlier today and just thought, nah, can't do it. Love their trunk though, I would kill to have that option on other trucks.

not sure about other brands, but when Toyota buys a vehicle back under the lemon law they don’t allow it to be sold on a Toyota lot. It’s sent to auction and typically ends up at a third party dealer.

Honda is really missing the boat here with the Ridgeline. It can be so much more than what they are making them, yet they insist on building a unibody truck. I don't understand what the disconnect is here, but the moment they build body on frame, they will have some skin in the game and expand their consumer base attracting wheelers to haulers for the truck segment.

I don't know if I agree with that. There are a ton of Taco owners who, if we're being reallllly honest, rarely if ever go off road or utilize any of the raw "truckiness" of the Tacoma. Mine is 99% commuter and home depot hauler, unashamedly, as I would bet is the case for the vast majority of Taco owners. I don't own or want a RTT, don't go anywhere where sliders are necessary and don't plan on filming any Mountain Dew commercials any time soon.

The Ridgeline will gladly handle light off roading, home depot trips to pick up mulch, and has waaay better on-road manners and cabin comfort - not to mention fuel economy and noise. They don't need to compete with wheelers and haulers. Just city dwellers who want or need something other than an SUV for task work. It's frankly a better tool for the job, objectively speaking, for many use cases.
