Now i am worried , if you see the news. Jack your key Fob so fast they off with your Ride in seconds.. anyone have any good ideas on what they use for extra protection besides a Club . ? im going to watching my key fob like a hawk , with a case that wont send a signal . but i would like a Kill switch that they can find .

A club is not going to discourage somebody from trying to drive your truck once they’ve started it. There are plenty of videos from California showing thieves driving clubbed cars with varying degrees of proficiency.

My wife’s friend who lives in the Richmond hood says the only reason she has a club is because you can beat somebody with it.

Thank lord I’ve got the good ol H key. Not saying my truck can’t be stolen, but at least these scumbags won’t be able to “copy” my FOB signal and open my truck.

My truck is visible out of my huge living room window so that kind of helps too. Plus, I live in a very decent neighborhood.

Hidden kill switch is probably your best plan. If it can be done a secondary fuel shut off switch also

My point exactly , they can cut a club off with a Hacksaw in 30 seconds.

    1. Park in a locked garage.
    2. Park in a spot that only a high-clearance 4x4 can access.
    3. Put your fob in a cookie tin to block the signal.
    4. Cover the VIN on the dash.
    5. Install an OBD2 port lock.
    6. Select a vehicle considered ugly and undesirable to Nigerian buyers e.g. 4th gen 4Runner.

#1 and #2 are the only good defenses against tow trucks.

    Unfortunately yes.

Even my trailers “chock lock” can be cut quite quickly with the right tools. I do keep it pretty much empty unless im working so I’m not too worried.

Unless the thieves have this, which they probably won't.

Wasn't but a few months ago thieves were stealing tow trucks to steal cars. I think they even got a few new Lexus ES of the lot.

The Europeans have had to step up their tow truck game because most modern European cars don’t have a traditional parking brake, but rather just electronically lock the disk brake calipers when put into park.

Those electric parking brakes made Fwd backed in cars less fun to tow. I don't think the Lexus dealer had the parking brakes engaged on their cars.

My understanding, and correct me if I’m wrong, is that in most areas that unless a vehicle is actively impeding someone’s driveway, blocking traffic, or is some other safety risk and is just illegally parked, and the tow truck cannot tow it without damaging it, they have to come back with a truck that can safely tow the vehicle and many European car owners were taking advantage of that because the snatch and grab style repo trucks would damage those electric P brakes?

Just throw dollies under the locked wheels, probably only takes another minute. The only car I can recall damaging was a Scion IQ put a whole right through the tire. Tires were severely underinflated, car was parallel parked and had to grab it at 90° the car is so narrow couldn't tell were the inside of the tire was in relation to the claw and pinched the side wall. One of the most expensive tires I ever bought odd ball size. Thing was dry rotted to hell anyway.

    Dealership won't do that.

Aftermarket shops, yes as long as they know how to do that... If not, you need to find local TW member to do it for you.

Other option is the security cameras. If stolen, show video to police as long as face(s) are visible to the officers. If the faces aren't visible to them, then the video isn't worth their time to catch the thieves.

#1, don't forget that thieves can break in the house to get the keys then go to the garage to open up to drive the truck out. If they are home, then thieves won't be able to.

If they have no garage, then have the wife to block the tacoma with her car. Simple as that. Thieves hate to waste time to move cars around.

Your concern was FOB signal stealing.

Re read post 5. Something you can do right now for free.

another alternative is to simply pull the battery cables. hard to hack a remote for a vehicle that the remote doesn't work...
