Hi everyone! I am a beta tester for Toyota’s 4th Gen Tacoma! This past month I picked up my 2024 Off-Road with Toyota’s long-range fuel tank that they are having me and a few other owners test.

I can’t provide any specifics, but I thought these images would help to paint a close picture of what they might be releasing in a future model-year. ;)

    My experience:

    Pre-trip:

I started out my trip by topping off at my home station.
(full tank & estimated range not pictured)

    Trip:
My drive was approximately 130 miles roundtrip.
    My average speed was 62mph.
Round-trip drive time was roughly 2.5 hours.

    Dash-reported MPG was 20.5mpg.

I stopped at the exact same station, to top off and measure:

    Tank after 130 miles:

Almost 1/8th of a tank used! This has me so excited, this means I can complete any of my vacation trips with only 1-2 fill-ups.

I’m not going to guesstimate the tank size, because I have filled up from the bottom and know already, but I’ll let you come to your own conclusions!

As for the driving experience, I haven’t noticed any difference in drivability compared to other Toyota & domestic trucks that I have driven and drive regularly.

    Fill up:

Five gallons! Wow! This is a lot better than the 18.2gal tank everyone else has been talking about! To be clear, I did not top-off the tank or bounce the truck around trying to fit as much as I could in there; this was using the auto-shutoff feature of the pump.

    Post-fill up glee:

Just kidding! This is how my fuel gauge works with the normal 18.2gal tank.
    5/18.2 =/= 0.125 ???

thanks for reading. Sorry I am late for Friday.

Now that you mention it, if you do the math by hand, I guess so. Almost all of my driving is interstate, but the dash has never crept above 20.6, but I’ve never reset it over 2000 miles either.

I always calculate mpg by dividing actual miles by actual gallons.

    Using fuelly is easy.

Over the tank or 26mpg? I can get 26, but I've recently found out what throttle position to make the turbo whistle... :anonymous:

I've found mid 20's is very doable. I live in the sticks, so it's all rural routes, so fairly simple.

From a dig or at speed, 3/8 throttle seems to spool things up easily. Not good for mileage though

All seriousness aside. I hope that Toyota does increase the tank size in future model years. I'm very disappointed with the fuel range.

    21g would have been good!
I’d just like my gauge to be remotely accurate.

on the 1st gen, when the needle hits E, there are still 3 gallons. and sure, it takes a little bit of driving for the needle to start dropping from Full, but not 100 miles. Maybe 2 gallons.

As far as I know, when the 2024 hits E I should have a couple gallons left. (I dont care about DTE #s)

so really my gauge should be 33% depleted…. not 12%

    Right now its:
    50 miles
    not using gas
    50 miles
    not using gas
    30 miles
    not using gas
    used a tad of gas
    dozens more miles
    used a tad of gas
    another 30 miles
HOLY FUCK THE WE JUST LOST HALF THE TANK!
[idk what happens with the gauge below 33-40%]

Once you use 1/4 tank that gauge goes waaay fast. Must be a strange tank design. If I fill up around a 1/2 I'm always putting in 10 gallon o_O

I ran mine down to a range of one mile the other day and it still had 2.4 gallons in it.

i read all of the other beta testers brag about their trucks, then took a ball peen hammer to the frame of my old one.

Just like that, I had an excuse to become a beta tester myself!
