Welcome to TW... I’ve read a lot of good things on the toyo at3. I’m debating on whether to buy them or another set of Falken Wildpeaks at3, the Falken’s have been great tires.

Looking at the Cooper LT’s or 4S’s? May make a difference in the recommendation you get.

What’s your anticipated usage, mostly off road or pavement?

My bad for highjacking this almost dead thread but I'm in the same boat as OP although I'll be going with the 265/75R16 on the SCS F5 (16 X 8 6 X 139.7 4.50" +0mm) as I do not plan on a lift... yet. The versions that Tirerack.com and discounttires.com are the:
    COOPER DISCOVERER AT3 4S ($159.99) 41lbs each
Toyo Open Country A/T III E rated ($204.10) 48lbs each
Toyo Open Country A/T III ($169.36) 41lbs each

This is my daily driver that runs 90-95% on-road but hopefully less in the future. I live in Chicago so want tires that will be good in the winter and on our terrible roads. I drive 60-70% on the highway. But I'm also coming from an 03 WRX with a very tightly tuned suspension so I'm used to added NHV. Though, part of the reason I moved to the Tacoma is to have a more family friendly (comfortable) adventure ready vehicle since I have a 2.5 y/o and one due in less than a month. Basically I want it all right? haha Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated from this Tacoma noob who wants a safe, capable, and fun truck on/off road.

    Thanks,
    Jon

Either one but stick with SL load rating. Both brands have additional sipping on there SL vs LT.

This might be a dumb question but SL is the less robust version? Less plys? Reduced weight? LT is stronger/heavier? Like I said, just getting into the Tacoma world.

Ironman Foamcell 3" lift, ARB dual compressor, GoPro mount, BadElf mount, Drive grab handle, RCI skids, Victory sliders, half rack, TuffStuff Alpha ll RTT, Dometic 75 Fridge, extra USB & Outlets
I like both tires and the main two I will look at come replacement time. If most of your driving is on the road, SL tires are find, for me about 25% of my driving in on dirt roads , forest roads or off roading. I had a set of SL tires on an GX470 and one day on a nice forest road, a rock busted the belt, flat tire that can not be repaired, no more SL rated tires for me.

Love my AT3s, but only have 500 miles on them. They feel "sticky" and aren't too loud on the road. I ran Coopers on my 4runner, and hated the road noise.

when that happened did you air down? If so, what psi were you at? Part of me would rather get sturdier tires for the times that I’m in the field and not looking forward to changing a tire due to a puncture. I know it’ll happen eventually but if the ride/mpg isn’t THAT effected then I’d go with the 6-8lb increase for the peace of mind.

I was not aired down, my tire pressure was around 38psi and I was on a forest service road that people take RV’s down.

Toyo will last longer and better quality.

That said I have the cooper at3 4s and I'm pleased overall.

I've had both, I currently run the coopers. Maybe it was just me, but I felt like the toyos did not perform well in the rain - they hydroplaned really easily.

You must have had the old Toyo version. This new just came out around 4 months ago.

I don't have any experience with either, but just based on tread design, I would think the Coopers would be better on road, while the Toyo's would be better off road. So choose based on which is your priority...

Im wondering about snow performance between these two tires. I live in CO and spend a lot of time driving in snow on I70. Which of these perform better?

The Cooper Discover at3 4s has great reviews for snow driving.
