Were these the LT or SL version? I'm looking at going with the 265/70-18.

Loved, loved, loved my 265/75/16 (C load) Duratracs. Would have chosen them over my Wildpeak AT3s if they came in the 33" pizza cutter size.

But so far, I like my Wildpeaks.

I'm curious about noise as these tires wear. This summer I rented a Tacoma with LT Toyo AT3s that were more than half worn, and the noise was pretty bad. Almost sounded like a MT tire.

My dad just put Falken AT3Ws on his 4Runner, XL rated, and they are practically silent.

The Toyos are appealing for light weight and slightly higher quality, but I don't think I could live with the noise. But I haven't tried many AT tires, so I don't know what to expect as they wear.

I'm running LT rated Blizzak W965s now, and they are pretty quiet. Obviously a softer compound. They are not worn out yet (actually have tons of tread left), but they turned 10 years old this year, so it's almost time for something new.

I have just over 25k miles so far on my Toyo AT3s, and they are still pretty dang quiet. Now, my Falken MTs got crazy crazy loud with some miles on them hah. I do feel that have been losing traction though. I've noticed in rain they've slipped a few times...where I don't think they should have to be honest...we'll see how this winter goes in snow.

I've been eyeballing the Falken AT4Ws...but the weight has turned me off.

How are the E load Toyos in wet? And how loud is loud? Like annoy the crap out of you on a 5 hour road trip loud? Or background hum no big deal loud?

They are okay in the wet. Never lost a line or anything. Mostly taking off from a stop in the rain or steep paved hill. I add about four 60 lbs bags of sand in the rear, over the axle at some point in October when it starts raining. They are louder than stock, probably louder than KO2s, but not annoyingly loud like a MT or anything. Noise is very subjective though. I notice it, but just so. There may be nothing to it, but I got my Toyos after I installed my Alu-Cab Contour. I wonder how that might change, or even amplify road noise? Hrrrmm.. Anyway, I think you should expect a bit more road noise than the stock tires, but I don't find it that bad at all. I would probably have gotten rid of them if they were loud. We'll see how they do this year. We didn't see much snow last year. We had a pretty bad ice storm/freezing rain, but I wasn't about to pretend you could travel in that crap.

To drive safely you need 320 pounds of sand in the bed? Just want to make sure I read that right :)

The Toyos are really good in the rain, I don't know about snow yet.

Yup. Some weight in the bed helps during the winter months.
I run several of the tube sands in the bed during the winter for traction.
It definitely helps with traction, and I have traction sand if I need it.

Falken AT3's with about 50K mi on them. 6/32" tread left. 50-50 pavement, rocky dirt roads. Never any balancing issues, a little stiff until they warm up if it's cold. Rotated every 5-6K mi, which I think is key. Live in the mountains so rain, snow, etc. No complaints.

how can you slip while taking off with trac control?
wouldn't any a/t tire be noisier that the stock street tire?
are you "guessing" about being louder than ko2's?

I had falken at3ws in lt 285/75r17. They lasted 80k, still had tread but performance was down and noise up. I switched to p rated nitto trail grappler g3. Not the most aggressive tread but so far pretty quiet and should have great wet traction. I was looking at the toyos but I saw a few people who were less than impressed with the wet performance after 20-30k miles so I decided to try out these new nittos.

    It just does.
    Yes.
Yes, due to years of separation between having the two different AT options. However, I'd have to say the KO2s seemed quieter based on my memory.

Loved my AT3Ws. Love the HT02s even more! Especially if you do mostly road with the occasional weekend gravel trip.

LOL, I think they are actually 60 lb bags now that I think about it. So, about 240 lbs. There are some pretty steep hills in my day-to-day. If you don't have enough weight, you will just sit there and spin. I might get by with a little less, but it's not worth risking it for me. It's just cheap insurance.

Yeah man, I'd say it's a pretty good all arounder that is a lot lighter than many of the options out there.
