Hi, I drive a 22' Tacoma and I'm replacing my tires and also doing a Bilstien 5100 lift set up with icon 1.5 ael. I'm having trouble deciding on my new tires. Moving away from the stock Goodyear Wranglers. I'm looking for a 265/75/16 Toyo seems to be like my first choice due to my own research hearing it doing well in the rain. (I live in FL)

So far I ruled out KO2s and 3s because I've heard mixed reviews. Falkens were originally not my choice but I saw that the 4s came out and liked the aggressive look compared to the Toyos more reserved look.

Anyone have pics of their set up and or reviews of either tire? Which would you go with?

Most say the Toyo AT3 is more aggressive looking than the Falken I find.

Honestly both are very similar and neither are a bad choice.

I prefer Toyo as a brand but the AT3W/4W as a tire because its quieter.

The Toyo AT3 is noticeably louder than its predecessor AT2 and for its segment I want quiet.

So I am of no help really. You wont regret either. Put up pics of the lift and tires once you get them!

I did alot from stock SR5 to what I got built now, think tasteful but not overdone modest build. I will have before and after pics

I already compared the weight with the At4W and the Toyo AT3 and there's a 4 pound difference according to Discount Tires Specs
    AT4W weighing more ofc

Yep, they are heavy. If you go from stock to atw4 expect performance issues. Mpg will ltake a hit immediately.

I can't speak for the new Falken AT4w's, but the Falken AT3W's were notorious for poor balancing issues. A family member has them on his F150 and claims they ride like bias ply until they warm up. He bought them only because they were cheap. Maybe the AT4w's have improved?

I'll add the Falken AT3w's were one of the most popular choices for 3rd gens. Toyota had them on all their display vehicles at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale this year.

I have 5100s on all 4 corners of my truck. 3rd notch (+1") up front and stock at the rear for a leveled look.
I too was debating between the Falkens and Toyo. The Falkens appear slightly more aggressive to me which I do like and want, but figured the Toyos would be a quieter ride which I also want, so I went with Toyos. I live in Alberta, Canada. I don't take my truck offroad, it's my daily and drove well in the winter.

I had Falkens (AT3W) on my Frontier back in 2021 for a month. They were very heavy, resistive to turning (lots of scrubbing noises when I’d turn), and they didn’t balance right. So overall, I was not happy with them. The one positive was they had good traction, wet or dry.

On the Tacoma I have been running Toyos in multiple sizes, 265/65R17 XL, LT255/75R17C, P265/70R16 SL, and now 265/75R16 SL. I did get either a defective tire or a bad balancing job on the 265/70R16. Other than that I liked them, but because of that I swapped to the 265/75R16.

I’ve now been on the 265/75R16 for a few thousand miles and I really like them. They feel lightweight, have fantastic traction, and look good. I highly recommend the Toyos. The LT models are louder and have less traction due to harder rubber and less siping. So I recommend SL unless LTs are truly needed for heavy duty use.

@Vlady hit the nail on the head. Watch the tire weights, this is where performance is lost, and ride quality suffers. I went with the Toyo at3 in 265/70/17 for my sport on trd sema wheels. They look great, not overly loud. But what sold them to me was, their weight was the closest I could get to the factory oem toyo a30, at 39lbs. Your 4 pound difference wont seem like much on paper but, it is 4 per tire so, 16lbs of pure rotating mass. It will make a significant difference, in felt performance. The next thing is, if you dont need E rated tires, dont get them... the ride quality will suffer greatly. Ski

Unrelated: truck looks awesome! Is that an an OEM unpainted skid plate with the TRD letters painted? Or vinyl?

I think the Toyo ATIII is about the lightest AT you can get. I had them on my Gen 2. This was in the DFW area and they were good in rain.

Probably a coin toss between your 2 contenders. All things being equal, I choose the one that looks better.

    Thanks man!
Yes it is an oem skid plate and it's still in its silver powder coat that it comes in. I did paint the letters black but it didn't stick well on couple small parts (not enough prep work on my part I guess) and came off when washing the truck, so wrapped them in vinyl after.

Toyo FTW! The weight savings alone sold me. My wife’s 4r currently has bfg but I’ll be switching to toyos for that too this fall when she needs new tread.

Don’t underestimate what a few pounds will do for mileage and braking distance. Going from stock to a bigger heavier tire will take more brake force to slow so watch for that too
