Got to get a new truck... only 170k miles and my 2015 4wd SR5 apparently blew a valve.

Looking at getting a manual transmission truck... saw several tow with manual...

When researching vehicles I also looked at the Jeep Gladiator. Interestingly the tow ratings on them with a manual transmission are only 4000# vs 7500# with an automatic trans and the same gas engine. On a jeep forum one poster was commenting that the auto could absorb the starts and load jerks/bumps better than the clutch plates which won't be slipping.

On the Tacoma's the towing variance is minimal between manual and auto transmissions. Any thoughts?

p.s. I was towing a loaded 3000-3500# trailer and the auto ran nice and cool with a fair sized tranny cooler.

Jeep pulls a funny game to get the 7500 pound rating. To achieve it you have to get the "maxtow" package which includes a lower geared diff and some other things. I havent looked closely to see if max tow is available on the manual or not.

The Jeep max tow is NOT available on the manual.

Regardless of tow capacity I’d rather tow with an auto. Been driving manual trucks and cars on and off all my life. But when it comes to towing I’ll take an auto. Pulling boats up steep launch ramps are a pita with manuals. Backing up good size trailers with a manual is also a pita especially on hills. I have no problems doing any of that with a manual but it’s just a pain compared to an auto. I once had to back a trailer up a steep windy narrow dirt road about a quarter mile with a Ford truck with a manual. I decided that day no manuals for towing.I can do just prefer not to.
