Quick question, read the towing bible thread, but wondering if members engage H4 aka 4x4 mode for towing. Planning a trip and have a tandem 77 x 14'. Trailer weight 1500lbs, load will be 3000lbs, so 4500 and will be crossing the Rockies, so is it preferable to leave it in 4 instead of D and engage H4 - 4x4 mode?

If you're asking if you can off road with a trailer, you can. Hi just make sure you select the appropriate hitch set up if rollover is a possibility.

No off roading just 16 hour road trip one way. Engage H4 for steep grades in the mountains?

If it's not off-road it wouldn't be wise to use 4wd of dry surfaces.

Just put it in 3 for those really steap climbs if it feels like it's bogging down. In most cases higher rpms means less work if the rpms are within an ok range

I'll parrot what others are saying, and don't use 4H. It's never recommended to use it on the road (places with a lot of grip) because you need slippage between the front and rear tires. And all that aside, 4H wouldn't help anyways.

Don't lie. You're using 4wd all the way to DE. Haha

Never tow in 4wd unless necessary for some off road applications. The only other time on the highway I would is if necessary is in snowy icy conditions.

Why would you want to use 4X4 to toe your trailer on dry roads?
