I'm having a hard time finding the information I'm looking for.I'm thinking about buying an enclosed trailer for my business maybe a 7x12 or 7x14. I have a 2006 TRD 4 x 4. I'm looking to put maybe one wood bench inside the trailer, My saws and hauling a few windows or a single entry door. Was talking to someone and they got me nervous about pulling a 12 foot trailer with this small of a truck. I know the new F-150 s have a smaller engine but I think they are turbo or supercharged. Does anyone have any experience with pulling a cargo trailer?

@Frankenstein09 Depending on where you're at in NE Ohio, try going to Majestic Trailer on 224 in Akron, they may let you hook one up and take it for a spin to see how it pulls.

I’ve never had any problems. Trailer is 1800 lbs empty plus whatever you put inside. Just get a brake controller in the truck and you are all set.

Also if you are getting a trailer this size I highly recommend going aluminum. Saves a good bit of weight and still looks like new after sitting outside for 3 years

Dry weight of a 7,000 pound cargo trailer is what, 2500 pounds? Sounds like that you aren't exactly hauling concrete in it, I'm guessing 1,000 pounds cargo, right? Youre right at max capacity for your model year. It certainly can do it, but it ain't gonna be comfortable. You'll be hating life if you do that 5 days a week.

The other issue is that I'm guessing you're hauling it around town. Tacos are narrow beasts, and their little mirrors produce big blind spots at the rear corners of the trailer. You might want to invest in some tow mirrors if you're considering it.

For 2006 model year? I thought it was 3500. But then again, my google-fu could suck today. If it's 6500, then yes, definitely no issues.

7x16. Pulls fine. Airbags with self leveling kit, flip up tow mirrors, Andersen No-Sway W/D hitch.

Majestic is my local dealer. They don't stock anything used and the guy I talked to you wasn't all that helpful today. Seems like unless you can find something on Craigslist you're going to be hard-pressed to find a used trailer. Where are they all going?

I need to ask a dumb question here - what does the brake controller do? I tow this almost every weekend during the summer (this will be my second summer) anywhere from 1-4 hours away.

A Brake controller controls the brakes for the trailer. You can change how much is applied as you slow down which typically changes with what weight you’re hauling.

Well, considering Tacoma stock suspension bottoms out if a fly craps on the bumper, airbags are good.

A buddy of mine just traded in his 16 footer for a landscape trailer. but it was a little while ago so who knows where it's at now. Yeah Craigslist and FB might be your best bet. Maybe keep an eye out around the PA line too.

That was what I hated with my '10. Throw 350lbs of grain in the bed and it'd kiss the bumpstops on a good-sized pothole.

Dang, shame on the dude that sold you the trailer for not talking brake controllers. Tacomas that came with a tow package have an easy plug to hook a controller into, no wire splicing required. As the other poster said, it controls your trailer brakes. Most units now have accelerometers in them, they judge how hard you are braking and apply that force to the trailer to match. You can dial in how aggressive they are depending on load and weather conditions.

If your trailer has electric brakes, take full advantage and get yourself a brake controller. It reduces significant wear on your truck and reduces the potential for a jackknife.

They pitched me on the controller when I got my pop up camper. Didn't buy it and don't know I missed it. I was also under the impression the taco TC was 3500lb mostly from Google. Damn you google
