Yes, but depending where you are in the country it'll suck. I have a Starcraft 18ds (similar specs) and sold my truck cause it fucking sucks towing. You'll see people with 30ft 7000lb trailers that talk up the Taco but it all depends on your expectations. Will it? Yes. Well? No.

You’ll be fine. Just be realistic with your expectations. It’s not a full size truck and is going to work harder than a full size truck. I towed a Wolf Pup 16bhs for a few seasons with my 2016 SR5 DCLB 4x4. I ran with a WDH and brake controller and it never felt unsafe.

That would probably be as big as you want for a Taco.
I tow a pop up in Pennsylvania were it's not flat and while it does good since it's light with low wind resistance. The mpg will suck even more then mine does at 16-17 mpg if I stay around 65 mph on the highways. With that weight and frontal area it's gonna be worse and count on more downshifts and higher revs to climb.
I noticed it tows my pop-up camper much smoother with less sway at speeds over 65 then the Liberty CRD I used to have. I wish the jeeps parts availability and reliability as it got older was better. Honesty its little diesel got way better mpg towing but about the same mpg around town as my Tacoma does. Gas engines just dont quite have the same torque for towing IMO but reliability is important too.

    That's the thing right there.

The other thing is that the 3.5 has a high red line and the torque comes much later than most people are used to...so you have to let it spin.

at 3877 lb. loaded it will tow it.. you'll know its there for sure. make sure you get a running start for any inclines in the road and even then it will be up in the rpm's.

the bigger issue is the payload.. that tongue weight will dip into the payload a good amount (even with a WDH) so pack accordingly.

For an extreme towing capacity video Look up TFL truck. A few years ago they did a towing video with the Tacoma pulling 5000 pounds up a mountain. Yeah it can do it but it will spin.

oh it will do it.. hell i towed a 5500 pound travel trailer with my old tacoma.. freaking engine sounded like it wanted to jump out from under the hood the entire time but it did it..lol i never felt unsafe in the truck when towing though.. it just wore me out.. moved up to a full size truck with a V8 and max tow package and the improvement is amazing because the truck is intended to do what i'm doing with it... it doesn't wear ya out like the tacoma did..

Yeah, if you watch that video they were full throttle the entire climb. Definitely you can do it it won't be comfortable.
I'm pretty happy with mine and how it works for me and my little camper. I don't plan on a bigger one. If anything I'd change to a teardrop camper since I mostly travel and camp by myself these days.
It definitely needs to rev more than the little diesel I had. I'd get a diesel again but I'm not interested in dealing with the moden emissions stuff when it breaks out of warranty. IMG_20210521_153807.jpg

I've been full throttle in my diesel climbing hills (7% sticks in my head out of Yakama to Seattle) with my 6.0 when towing near max. That doesn't seem unreasonable.

That weight it is fine, but wind resistance will make it work more. When we travel with our side-by-side, the total weight is a little over 3k and it does fine. The side-by-side sits up pretty high and you can feel the resistance. MPG averages between 11-14 depending on speed, terrain, etc. The travel trailer will have more wind resistance, so mpg won’t be great. Use ECT and S4 and don’t be afraid to let the engine rev. Keeping your speed reasonable will help mpg and probably make for a more enjoyable experience overall.
