    What is going my friends!! I have a quick question. I am planning on buying a boat this summer and I have been wondering what is the towing capacity of my 2013 4x2 Prerunner Double Cab. I've seen 6500 max with out any special kits. Also wondering if any of you have towed a boat with your Tacoma before? Thanks in advance.

    Is it a TRD? Without a locker or at least the limited slip, the part that would scare me is pulling a boat out of the water up a steep wet ramp.

    That should get you started. Does your '13 not have an owners manual?

    I don't know if prerunners had towing packages available or not, but if not, it's quite reduced from one that has it.

    Big questions...........

    Total wet weight being towed?

    Does the trailer have brakes?

    Is where you launch level or steep, and is the surface your tires will be on allow decent grip? I've seen folks tow ok, but not be able to pull out of a ramp once they reloaded.

    V6 = 6500 lbs max, 650 lbs tongue max.

    I4 = 3500 lbs max, 350 lbs tongue max.

    Nothing else matters.

    Nothing adds more payload to this, either.

    soooo you would tow that kind of weight with a bumper hitch and no trans cooler and no electrical tow receptacle for ohhhh lights breaks if the trailer has them. where do you live...I don't want to be behind you towing.

    You can have a receiver without a tow package.

    With the tow package, you can tow those weights.

    Without a tow package, you can tow those weights.

    If you want to tow with the bumper mounted ball, IIRC it says on the bumper cover what the weight limit is.

    Tow package doesn't make any difference in capacity, and a high output alternator, a trans cooler, a larger battery, a 7 pin wire harness, etc don't change your towing ability. They help minimize stress to the vehicle, help make towing safer, or add convenience to the driver.

    That's it.

    Uhhhh.. ummmmmmm.. stop eating crayons.

    All you need to tow at max capacity is to know what that capacity is, have a correctly rated receiver with a ball, and a 4 pin or 7 pin harness for whatever trailer you're hauling.

    4 pins are lights only.

    7 pins are lights and trailer brakes.

    Uhhhhh.. ummmmmm..

    You have no information based on rational thought and are arguing nothing except to prove your point, which was wrong to begin with.

    If you can't be accurate, at least be quiet.

    This is not correct. Without the tow package the lawful tow capacity is 3500lbs.

    Capacity is based on frame, axles, drivetrain.

    If your receiver is rated for 6500 lbs+, then you can tow at max capacity. Toyota covers their ass and says you shouldn't without a trans cooler, but capacity is capacity.

    Variation therein is based on axles and drivetrain configurations, not on tow package or no tow package.

    My manual states otherwise, as does the capacities sticker on my door. You really should read the manual, but you don't actually have a Tacoma anymore so you can't.

    Just for the sake of discussion, I suspect there is some politics regarding the I4 tow rating. The chassis are the same and the same exact 2TR-FE is rated to tow 5500 lb in the Hilux sold overseas. With the proper hitch one could probably push that 3500 with a Prerunner/4x4...legal issues aside of course.

    OP...is your PR a TRD? Most TRD PRs I've seen have the tow pac. Look for the oil cooler in front of your radiator and a pink fan clutch. Having the hitch doesn't necessarily mean you have the TP....so check for the other things
