so I already have a 7x18 enclosed tandem axle trailer. I used it as a mobile construction trailer for a while but pulled with with my 2500. I have a 2017 Tacoma, DCSB sport with M6. I am already going to get air bags for it. Due to a change I need to empty my garage back into a trailer, (divorcing). I was going to trade it in for a 6x12 enclosed tandem. All axles have brakes. If I load the bigger one light, would it tow all right? Does anyone townanything this big with their Tacoma. I have the chance to trade it in now. But o cioisly would be easier if I could keep what I have but don’t want to load it all up to find out it’s just too much. Any input would be great

I’ve towed a pretty loaded down 7x15’ enclosed trailer and it did just fine. Obviously not as big as the one you’re dealing with but I’d imagine Itd be fine if you didn’t load it down too much

It’s a 7k trailer. But would keep it on the light side. And would only be moving it a few times a year, it’s just so big. I feel like it will blow me around

I know they have weight distribution hitches for campers, they would probably have one for an enclosed trailer too I’ve never used them but have friends that swear by them.

You will be fine... trust me... Also, your empty trailer is no where near 7000lbs.

I tow a 6x12 regularly, and its less than 2000lbs.

Wind will be your biggest issue but mostly if you're in a headwind. Add weight into the bed of your pickup if you're really concerned

I think I’m going to get the airbags in, and just keep it light. I don’t move it that often- so as long as it goes decently it is easier than trading in for a smaller one

Your 17 Tacoma has pretty stout springs so you might not need bags at all. I tow my 6x12 all over the place. I've towed a 7x18 before and it did fine too.

I, personally, would keep the bigger trailer. A big trailer can haul little stuff... a little one can't haul big stuff.

I towed a 5x8, single axle enclosed trailer from NJ to FL without issue. The rear squwated some as it was a single axle and rather heavy load. You’ll be much better off with your tandem axle.

If you are in the trades and it only moves a few times a year... Then you know some guys with 3/4 tons. A few cases of beer and an occasional ride with the taco should be good. You will be overloaded BTW.

    Rain Visors,
Yea, having the volume of the bigger trailer is nice. I’m not going to load it with material, just the tools. I feel if I keep it loaded right, and make sure not to fill it. I think I should be ok.

    Rain Visors,
You’re right, and can always rent a truck for an afternoon if need be. I think I’m going to try to load it light. See how it pulls, too heavy I can borrow a truck- if it pulls ok. That’s good too

Ok so you e towed a 7x18 before- how was the wind. If I keep the front end empty we should be in good shape

The only time I had a serious wind issue I was heading into the wind, and I'm talking like 30mph. The truck bogged in 6th but ran great in 5th at 65mph. This was my buddy's fully loaded concrete tool trailer... I'm sure I was every bit of 6000lbs. But I was pleasantly surprised.

I towed my 6x12 from Kansas to Baltimore and back one summer. Empty going out, maybe an extra 500lbs coming home. I noticed when a semi would pass me I'd feel squirrelly so I put 150lbs in the bed and it greatly improved my predicament.

    Rain Visors,

Ok I think I’m going to load the 7x18. Keep it light and I should be good to go. It will be nice having walking room too.

    600lbs ----oops! I said 600 and I meant less than 600!

Edit: I will say, however, not quite sure how one would effectively measure this. I think a balanced load over the axle and slightly forward is your best bet. I have a John Deere S240 mower and always load it backwards into the trailer with the engine over the axle.

I definitely would keep the 7x18. You'll probably benefit from mirror extensions but it's no an absolute must do.
