You should total the truck. It's done.

In all seriousness, it's a "relatively" simple replacement. You could go with a stock boot but I would run one of these boots. Pull your axle (or both if both are fux'd), pull the old boot off and check your CV's for condition. Run it through a parts cleaner to get all the old grease out. If everything's gravy, you should be able to re-grease the joint, push the new boot on and clamp it down then prime for reinstall. If that sounds like too much work, buy replacement axles and install them while you take time to rebuild your current ones. Now you have spares for 'just in case'. Getting a new boot on is easier if the joint is pulled apart but it is possible to shoe-horn the boot on if its fully assembled. It'd be a fun project, I dont envy you.

Any torn boot is bad road grit and water does not play well with bearings and grease .

CV axle failures can be exciting .

If money is really tight installing new boots if no real damage has been done is a option .

unless your a hard core off roader the New Napa ones have worked for me..

I have two sets to rebuild if I get in the mood.

if no sign of grease, all the grease has exited. You should probably rebuild and add more grease. Otherwise you may be hearing some clicking soon

I have an extra set to send out to CVJ to reboot. Im tired of rebooting, and then the clamps fail

Somebody was selling “orange super boots”. Have you tried them? Snake oil?

CVJ sells high angle boots, but I will let them reboot mine. Ive done it a few time, and had the boot clamps fail a few times.. enough for me to justify paying for someone else to do it

I have them on my current axles now. Not bad, but I think they are a little wider than the part on the boot for the clamps. But Im still going to go with these

If that is 'no sign of grease' to you, I'd hate to see what gunked up means.

They really need to be replaced ASAP. And stay out of mud, water and dirt roads until they are.

I just had to replace my driver side for almost the same reason. Mine was the inner boot. I was in a time crunch so I got a reman napa cv, put it in, and ordered the reboot kit -- your outer boot part is
04427-0T060 ... I could drive immediately and then had the time to receive the order and reboot it. I couldn't figure out the outer clamp so ended up with the more basic fold over. Anyways, last weekend I rebuilt the OEM CV with the inner boot and it's sitting here waiting to be re-installed. I don't have anything coming up that's going to stress the napa CV and it drives great so I'll probably leave it in until I need to get back in there. Also -- if you have any sort of vibration under the pedal that goes away in 4WD I highly recommend installing the ECGS bushing while you have the axle out.

Thanks guys. I know its on the to do list. Just gauging criticality and options based on the pics. As mentioned earlier time and resources are tight. It’s not my daily driver.

Napa CVs with discount are less than $100 and the best OE option
