    Hi Everyone!

I'm Kim, the founder of Topper Tent. This thread is for you all to post any questions, pictures, or experiences with Topper Tent.

What is Topper Tent? Our tents allow you to sleep in your topper with your tailgate down. They attach with velcro to your toppers carpeted headliner and buckles underneath the open tailgate. We have attachments to make our tents compatible with a Softopper.

We also have a custom fit folding mattress that perfectly fits around the Tacomas wheel wells. The mattress has a detachable end piece so you can sleep with your tailgate open or closed.

What makes us different? Storage! Our tent rolls up and stores inside your topper. When you are ready to camp, all you need to do is undo 3 velcro straps and it's ready to be set up. Only takes about a minute. Our Tacoma Mattress folds back so you can store all our camping gear in your truck.

Please feel free to post any questions here!

Used it a few times already. Nice to have the extra space. I have the 6' bed. keeps the bugs out well, does awesome in the rain too. Looking to see how it fairs in the snow this winter here in Colorado.

This looks pretty awesome! For wedge campers do you cut them to size??

Very interesting. And it costs less than a full camper.

@2013XSPX We do not make custom tents, but either our mid-size or our mid-size tall tent will fit your Inca camper! I would just need a couple measurements from you. Also, nice build!

A few questions re using a Topper Tent with a SmartCap.

1.How tight does it roll up/how far down does it hang? Trying to figure out if it will impact visibility out back window.
2 Also, does TT V2 have the magnet strip of the tailgate attachment (like in V1 YouTube video)?
    3. What does it mean "***for toppers with carpet headliner"?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi There!

    1. You can roll the tent up really tight so it sits above your window - it shouldn't impact the visibility out of the rear window.
    2. The V2 has buckles along the tailgate instead of the magnets.
    3. We require carpet inside a fiberglass topper. Our tents attach to the topper's carpeted headliner with velcro.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions!

Thanks for your reply! We are still totally interested in Topper Tent, however, our SmartCap is all metal (not fiberglass) and doesn't have a carpeted headliner. I found an IG video by Spiritof1876 - looks like they are one of your retailers. On their video they mentioned using strong magnets to attach the Topper Tent to the inside of their SmartCap. We do use magnets a lot with our SmartCap (hanging swim wear & wetsuits to dry, storing paddles, etc). Any thoughts/feedback/suggestions/concerns on if magnets would work to keep the Topper Tent in place along the inside top? TIA!

Yes! You can use magnets to hold our tent up on the top and sides of the SmartCap. I would recommend some heavy hook magnets, at least 100 lb strength. The hook magnets are easier to grab and move around. This is what we did on Spirt of 1876 topper and it worked well!

I recently got a softtopper, and have been looking at these, would be a nice solution for winter camping when I dont want to throw the RTT on.

saw this on Instagram think earlier this year. looked awesome was super sad that you needed a carpeted liner for the roof. though have thought about a good adhesive backed Velcro strip could also be an option

Awesome! It is definitely a quick solution to camp in the back of your short bed. We have camped many times well below freezing and the Topper Tent does great!

We have had some customers carpet the rear of their topper and said it worked out great! Also, I have carpeted a topper in the past and it really wasn't that bad. I used some lightweight Lowe's indoor/outdoor carpet and 3M 90 spray adhesive and it is still holding up. Sorry, we do not have a better solution at this time. Let me know if you have any questions about carpeting a topper!

Carpeting a section of a topper is an intriguing idea/alternative. Just curious, would that be better than using the heavy magnets? What about heavy duty stick-on hook & loop? Now I can't wait for hubs to get home from work so I get into the back of the truck to visualize all these possibilities :)

I think either way is a great solution! I am not sure how long the adhesive will stick to the metal topper - we have not done any testing. Let us know what direction you go!
