Topper EZ Lift Build

I recently bought a 2017 Tacoma and I’m working on building out a camping setup. I purchased a Topper EZ Lift weekender package and just installed the lift system.



I’ve also started the platform bed, but still need to upholster the plywood (with cheap carpet), and attach a hinge, handle and fold out support leg for the board sitting vertically in the pictures below




Here’s a picture showing the 2x4 supports and how how I cut the boards. I wanted multiple pieces to be able to take it apart / remove it easily.



I’m wondering if anyone has any general suggestions for me related to the EZ Lift and / or setup in the back.

Also, I’m wondering if anyone has installed an EZ Lift system and a roof top tent?

what are the 2x4 supported by underneath? They look like they are floating lol

 

Nice work!

I had a tent in my topper EZ Lift and while it was well made, the tacoma short bed was just too small of a bed for it to fit well. Of the few times I used it, it rained twice and both those times I had little leaks around the seems near the foot of the bed. The rains were not hard rains either.

I am sure a person could spend a lot more time and actually cut and hem parts of the tent to fit the Tacoma short bed better.
While I think the long bed Tacoma would be a better fit for the EZ Lift tent, I still think it's not ideal due to smaller width.

The tents are made with a full size pickup in mind but can fit a Tacoma, just not very well.

Again, if one were to spend a lot of time measuring, cutting, and sewing velcro to different parts of the tent, it could work very well.

Such a cool concept and like I said, the quality was pretty good.

I have since sold my lift and tent. I'll try and find a pic and post it here in a few minutes - if I find one.

 

This is the best I could make it fit. You can see that it's not quite as taught as one would like a tent to be. It was totally functional, I just wanted something better.

 

how is the stability of your topper when the lift is at full extension. If I take my hand and move it, it def shakes. Im a little worried if I ever got caught in the wind it might rip off.

 

I never experienced high winds but I think it would be fine. Mine felt pretty sturdy. Serious gusts might rock you around but if your lifts are all secured well to truck and topper I don’t think you’d have a problem.
