So far all I've got is A/T 265's and D-rings front and back for recovery and a tow strap.

What do I need to get in order to be safe on easy to moderate trails? Trying to wheel on a budget.

    Maxtrax, Sliders, HiLift, etc...

Cut exhaust at axle. Remove sway bar. 265/75/16 STT pro. Sliders. Recovery gear.

Those are the top 5 in my book, and you’ve got some covered.

    After this, go have fun.

Way ahead of you brother, but in terms of recovery gear, whats the bare minimum?

Sliders are definitely your friend! They were the first thing I did to my truck when I got it. I’d say some good skidplates are also a good investment. As far as recovery just know a tow strap is not good for pulling a vehicle that is stuck. You want one that acts like a rubber band, A snatch strap is what I have.

Also make sure you have a good spare tire and a way to put it on if you have to.

On a budget? hmmm... slimline bumper with winch. The winch is a must have if you don't have someone with one at all times.

K&N cold air, Exhaust, rims and tires, 3" king extended travel coilovers and total chaos UCAs, rear diff breather mod, CBI off-road ditch brackets with Cali raised LED pod lights and painless wiring harness, 4xinnovations rock sliders, cab mount chop.
If you have an open wallet then go bat shit crazy. If you are on a budget like a lot of people then honestly I would recommend just getting out on the trails and seeing what you need. No point in rock sliders if you never get close, no point in maxtrax if you don’t need them ect... only real recommendation is recovery points, snatch strap, good friends, fire wood and a case of beer. The rest will come.

You need sliders if you're going to use a high lift. Sure you can use a high lift on some bumpers or D rings... but it's better to be able to lift from a slider when you're on a trail.

If you're talking strictly recovery gear and not armor... try to find room in your budget for a winch. In my experience it's been the greatest recovery tool I could have. With the winch you'll want a tree strap or two and some snatch blocks and soft shackles.

Nooooooooooo! That's what I was afraid of. What about hand winching with the Hi-lift? Not practical?

Go offroad for a while with the stock truck, preferably with experienced buddies with similar vehicles, use a bit of caution to avoid damage, getting stuck, or injury .... then use that experience to prioritize your mods. I’m not hard core, but started with d-rings and straps, then better tires, on-board air, and have sliders on order.

When you guys say recovery points, what are you referring to exactly? Up front on my truck there is a place to hook up to and in the rear you could hook to the hitch area right? Is there other recovery points I should know about or is that for people who don't have the offroad edition?

Just got a spare falken mounted on the SR5 wheel strapped down in my truck bed. I pulled the stock firestone out from under the truck.

The stock recovery points are okay, but D-rings allow you to "lock" straps in place. They'll never slip off like they could on a hook.
