Wow, didn't know that. Okay, Lomax it is; once my Taco has been built, currently scheduled for 05-Sep, I'm going to place an order for the Toneau cover; I'll PM you when I'm ready.

Well I guess what type of environment your truck is constantly exposed to makes a difference in how any cover is going to hold up. My OEM cover is well over 3 years old and it still looks new and functions perfectly with zero leakage. Covered parking and regular applications of 303 also helps I guess.

I installed a Tyger roll up cover today that I bought from Amazon for $197.00... It seems fairly well made, good enough for my needs!

That said, there is a local craigslist posting for a Toyota hard tri fold cover here locally for $150

Mine was 5 years old when I swapped, I won't say I was gentle with it, but I wasn't trying to break it either. Doesn't help that I don't garage to truck either, the uv really has bad effects on that sort of thing. Definitely wasn't as durable as I was expecting.

I love Bakflip because I still get to use the bed to haul oversized items. I'm not sure if diamond back can do that on the fly

You can't beat the factory cover, fit, finish and heavy duty. No aftermarket cover looks as good as the factory one. This is my opinion, others may have a different one. Mine is 4 years old, it looks and functions like new!

Each panel can fold all the way over or be removed within a few seconds. The entire thing can come off just by loosening 4 bolts.

Here's how to look for a $200 cover and end up buying a $700 cover. (I have a 5 foot bed). Fair Warning!!!
    Step by step instructions:
I looked at the cheaper soft tri folds first. Around $225.
Noticed the $300 options had slightly better material.
Found an OEM knockoff hard cover for $489. Sweet!!!
Noticed Amazon had the BakFlip G2 on sale for $721.
    Before I knew it I ordered a $700 cover!

Here's a link to some pics of my G2. No regrets!

Best part is if I'm on the road and want to throw something big in the box, I can put my soft top tri-fold tonneau cover in the back seat. Tight fit, but it works.

I have a craigslist special RetraxOne MX I got for $400. I have no idea how old is it. The fact that it is polycorbonate kinda worries me. There is some fading from UV exposure and I have no idea if the truck was garaged. If I get 2-3 years out of it, i'll be happy. They are like $1400 new, so.

I've been perfectly happy with the factory tonneau cover. It seals well and normally doesn't leak a bit. You'll only see a few droplets on the bed sides when you have a severe rain storm with lots of wind driven rain. Best part about it...the cover can take some decent amount of weight on it with no issues.

I've been perfectly happy without a tonneau cover at the moment...I think I just want it. (Yeah, it's a want...not a need)

And the one I want should look rugged and protective.

I shouldn't have any trepidation as far as standing on it.

It should have some weight to it but not break my back.

I would utilize it as I see fit and when I know I don't need it, I'll remove it.

    @Jay, here's my 2 cents.
First of all, big and bulky it out... because you intro'ed with, "Your wife wants!"
So, that means that you want something easy to use... but still looks good. So I'm with @MGMDesertTaco, the BAK X4S.
I toyed between this and the BAK MX4. After hundreds of videos, I was still torn!
Being a minimalist, I was drawn to the simple roll factor of the x4s, while still maintaining access to the full bed...and still having the benefits of a metal cover. So far, I am pleased.
BAK warrants the X4S and MX4 for 5 years, so you can't go wrong with either.
*side note: I purchased mine from Realtruck.com... they are the same company as TonneauCoversWorld. I used the chat function and got $250 off for being a tacomaworld contributor...and received a $150 rebate (visa card). So the listed price of $1100 quickly dropped to $740!
Good luck with your decision and be sure to let us know what you guys decide!. Screenshot_20220824-190324_Gallery.jpg 20220810_150958.jpg

I’ll give you a bit of a different perspective, because I have recent experience with 3 current models.

On my frontier I had a Truxedo Truxport. I was completely happy with it, but it wasn’t the prettiest.

On my Titan I decided to stick with the brand, but upgrade to the LoPro after lots of research. I LOVED it. It had the convenience of the Truxport, looked better, and was removable in about 10 seconds. I think it’s a hell of a good value for a soft cover.

I bought my Tacoma used with a 6 year old bakflip MX4. It’s seen a lot of usage and has traveled enough miles with the first two flaps open that the finish is worn off. I like that it adds security above what you get with the roll up. I like that it can be used as a table top in a pinch. It’s also easily removable. It really doesn’t have any cons compared to the LoPro, other than costing an extra ~$200. I bet for that extra money, it’ll probably last longer.

None of mine have had water intrusion problems.
