Considering either of these covers but it seems like you could poke a wire hanger between the tail gate and cover and pull the cord to open. Any truth to this?

I'm about to buy an Undercover Flex Lid. I went to a local truck accessory shop and they look and feel durable. As long as your tailgate has a lock, the lid can't be open. That's what the salesman told me.

These trifolds don't seem to have locks. It does look like they have a significant lip on them to make it difficult to get a hanger on the cord but without being able to test it myself, who knows. I was hoping someone out there has experience with this.

I've got the Undercover Flex, much more secure than a soft cover but I'm sure I could get into it with a coat hanger if I tried.

That G4 looks nice but it doesnt look like it folds up all the the way. Guessing you lose about a foot of bed space for large objects.

Yeah its about 15" that stays covered. I rarely have to load anything that big but I also have a bed extender under there.

then take a look at the Extang Encore. it's a tri fold with a lock, and also easy front AND rear access, and it comes off the truck in less than 30 secs. i love it... btw the lock is keyed to your truck's ignition key. it's a real winner for a tri fold.

Didn't consider a bed extender. That would give me some of that space back. Hmmm

Looked at my BakFlip G2. With a bit of effort and a coat hanger you could pop it open.

With a GM truck, easiest way is to punch out the lock cylinder on the tailgate handle bezel.

Read another thread on here that the encore slides around a little bit when driving because of the latch design. Any truth to this? I just sent back an extang 2.0 because it was defective and I was given a full refund. I'm looking into the encore now but not a lot of info on this particular cover.

As for taking a coat hanger to break into the tonneau, I was planning on blocking the front opening to the cable latch with a thin piece of sheet metal cut to fit those two parts to block the coat hanger from reaching the cable. When opeing, I would just reach under the said blocker to pull the cable... thoughts???

I was thinking the same thing. Gonna make a decision today or tomorrow. Prob going with Undercover. Unfortunately there's no way for me to get an update close look at these and I haven't been able to find a good pic of the locking mechanism.

my Encore does not slide. i installed it correctly and it's solid and tight, and so far not a drop of water either. i feel i made the perfect choice after looking at tonneau options for months.

It seems like it could slide given how easy it is to fold up and lift out... Ill have to research this more

@St.Germain how much play is there when tying to lift from the tailgate? I liked how the solid fold 2.0 had side clamps to lock it down rather than pull cords. But to be honest, they were a pain to open. The cord seems easier to use, but just concerned because when I go fishing, my tackle box has about 1k + worth of tackle/reels in it and don't like the idea of it being lifted up to have a coat hanger easily pop it open when I'm grabbing a bite to eat on the road. I know that if someone wants to get in, they will... but I just don't want it to be that easy. Thanks for any response.

i'd probably consider it a less-secure hard cover if you compare it to ones without the cable release. i haven't compared it directly to any others, only internet research before buying, but i can lift the tailgate end enough to easily slide in a hook. i love this thing, the design is terrific for me (2/3 fold without blocking rear glass, front fold access, hard, easy install, easy release, good water resistance, looks great...), but if i wanted this for security i would have bought a diamondback type cover.
