I’m having a hard time deciding between a tri fold, and a roll up. All opinions are wanted. Also, what brands should I look at.

I'd consider how often you plan to use and/or remove it.
Tri fold is easier to use often, roll up is easier to nearly fully open bed space or remove.
Also consider tri folds eventually leak, the foam absorbs water, and become heavy AF.

    another good point!
and while it does look good, OP should keep in mind since the tri fold does sit IN the truck box, the Tacoma's already short box is even more limited. In the end, this is what pushed me to sell my tri fold and buy a fiberglass topper. What was left of the height didn't fit what I used the truck for,,, including simply a cooler.

Any. They all offer a slight security because the back is covered from peeping eyes, the all offer somewhat waterproof design, and they all do pretty much the same thing. All depends how much you want to spend.

There’s a vendor on this site @truckalter that can help you out. I’ve seen a lot of positive things about the Lomax trifold

You might consider looking locally for a used OEM trifold cover. The OEM cover doesn't get a lot of love here, but it is a beast of a cover and is very easy to remove and install. You can put a decent amount of weight on it and not hurt it at all.

We deal with most of the brands and offer discounts on what we sell to forum members.... Either way feel free to reach out as I am always happy to work through options for you. Best thing to keep in mind is there is no best tonneau cover but more what is best for you and how you use the truck.

I’ve had a Lund Genesis Elite trifold on my Tacoma for the past six years. Very happy with it. The “Elite” version is worth the extra dollars: the cover is high-end convertible top material.

Easy on and off. No tools required. Utilizes the truck’s bed rails.

I have the Truxedo Pro x15 that I bought from RealTruck. IMO the ability to use the bed for work is a necessity that a trifold doesn’t quite allow. It’s also cheaper…

The Pro x15 sits nice and flat, is very durable, and is waterproof enough (not 100% but will keep your stuff from getting soaked in pouring rain).

I live in Montana and installed mine in the winter so sadly the wrinkles never quite came out of the fabric (unless it’s in direct warm sun)… RealTruck sent me a replacement fabric for free which I plan to install in summer. Hopefully the constant heat will help it form permanently flat—even in the cold.

Besides that it’s excellent overall. Installs over everything factory with no drilling required and when rolled up even allows you to still use those plastic factory bed rail hooks. IMG_4697.jpg IMG_4612.jpg

I'm happy with my BakFlip tri-fold. Allows you to still use the entire bed.
