Hi all who have tonneau covers.
I have had soft tonneau covers on all my Taco over the years and yes some have frozen to back corners but not as bad as this new Taco. First off it is a bit of a struggle just to open it during the Summer as the tonneau sits differently and makes it a little harder to open.
Now with Winter just wondering what you guys do for the tonneau not to freeze to make the tailgate easier to open.
I was thinking of some kind of silicone spray or a dab waterproof stuff but not sure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as long as they are not nasty.
    Thanks

I don't do anything. If there's ice I push on the tailgate before I try to open it. That breaks the ice and it opens like normal.

Silicone spray is probably a good solution. WD-40 would probably work too. Although, I have a hard cover and can't say I've ever run into any freezing issues I couldn't solve just by simply opening the tailgate.

The tailgate does open with a little bit of tugging just afraid that I will rip the seal across the tail gate as the Winter has been weird here. Freezing rain then thaw then snowing then thawing and rain etc etc. Thanks all for your inputs.

Recently had the same problem in Massachusetts. No amount of pushing, pulling or banging on the hard cover would break the ice to the point where I felt comfortable opening without ripping the seal. Maybe the spray is something to try, seems like a hassle though.

I just opened my tail gate and flipped up the factory tacoma cover this morning after some snow, and freezing rain on it....no problemo.

I think it is the design of the tonneau cover it does not cover the whole back top of the tailgate like the older ones did. On the older models it was not as hard to open like this one is a pain in the ass. As the snow or ice just sits on top of the tailgate and when it thaws if runs underneath the tonneau and freezes. Hope to find the right remedy for this annoying issue soon. As for folding back the trifold is usually no problem if there is no buildup of ice or snow of which I will not fold unless it is clear and try not to use much in the Winter.

I just bought some PB blaster silicone spray. I sprayed it on an old rag and wiped the weatherstripping. I went ahead and did all the door seals also. The last time it rained and froze a couple weekend ago I had a bitch of a time even getting in the truck without feeling like I’m going to rip the seals apart. We will see how this works.

    Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) works well.

I’d be careful with Vaseline on rubber seals. It can make them swell. So many options for jokes here……but it seriously does.

Isn't rubber it is EPDM and Vaseline works fine for it or at least it does for me.

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
My solution is : when going to self service wand wash, do it later in the evening, when no cars in lane waiting for car wash.
When done with washing, spend 10 minutes and wipe door rubbers and tonneau rubbers and surfaces with microfiber towel.
Outside was -26c, no prob next morning to get in to the cab or box.
Overall, times to time wiping with silicone lube helps as well.

Funny this thread came up the other day. We just had a day of warmer temps and rain. This morning a cold front moved through freezing everything to ice. When to load a chair in my trucks bed. Could not open the tail gate nor open the tonneau cover. First time thats happened. Well a bucket of hot water poured over it did the trick.

I used to keep a bottle of de-icer in my truck prior to moving to warm weather. I would spray any contact area with my roll up cover on the rails that it sits on as well as any moving mechanisms that could possibly freeze during the winter months. Didn't really happen often though.
