I'm looking to buy a good quality tonneau cover and a tailgate pad. I want that the tonneau cover can close with the tailgate pad still installed. Is that possible? Anyone have a set up that works?

There's a thread called "All Things Bikes And Tacos" where you might be able to get some good advice on that. Personally I don't have a tonneau cover, so I can't help.

My friend has a Fox pad with a locking tonneau (I can't remember the brand but it's a tri fold) on his Chevy 2500. I doubt the Raceface pad would be compatible due to the padding on it.

I have a RaceFace tailgate pad and it does not work with the factory tonneau.

Hey Mikebike - just curious. I have a 2020 Tacoma 5' bed and a trifold Lomax tonneau cover. Can you fit your bike in your bed with your tailgate pad with your OEM tonneau folder up to the back of the cab?

I know the tonneau will not close with the tailgate pad in place due to the padding. I am just trying to determine if I can fit my MTB in the bed only using the last 2/3s of the bed. I want to get the same RaceFace pad, but didn't want to have to remove the tonneau cover every time I go for a ride.

PS: I am from Maine as well - ride the Gorham trails, Blackstrap and Bradbury Mountain quite often...

I was just coming here to ask this same question. I have a 2022 Off Road with a 5' bed and looking for some type of cover for the back that will let me still run a Dakine tailgate pad, and ideally fit the bikes on it with the tonneau folded to it's last third.

Or an easy to remove tonneau that my wife can put on by herself the few times we need it. Thanks!

I have the factory cover and a fox tailgate pad. You can get the cover to snap into the first locked position so it won't fly open, but it's not completely sealed like when it locks into the second snapped position.

Not ideal, but I don't often drive with the pad installed.

Thanks! Can you fit bikes in the back still without removing the cover and just folding it up leaving 2/3rds open?

You have to open it all the way back and lock in the latches. The bikes sit a little angled but fitting 3 is no problem.

I have the Lomax too. I havent physically tried it yet, but I did take some rough measurements. Not looking good. Sorry. :(
If you find a real answer though, Id appreciate if you could let me know. I havent got the pad yet and dont want to buy it until I have a concrete answer.

My solution might be a little different, but I run a bed extender with the Lomax tri-fold cover. I leave a Dakine pad (used for holding surfboards) on the bed extender all the time.

I can rotate the bed extender into the bed with the pad attached and still fully close and seal the Lomax cover.

I can load bikes in the (5 foot) bed with the Lomax cover if I use the bed extender.

Hey PasoSteve - I was envisioning the need to store the bikes on an angle with a Tacoma 5' bed. I guess you answered my question - it seems like the tailgate pads allow for some right-to-left adjustments, versus the bikes needing to be parallel to the bed rails.

Hey RyeGuy - that's ingenious! I didn't consider using a tailgate extender and attaching the tailgate pad to that! I'll have to consider that as an option!

I don't have a bed extender. I'm assuming they are pretty locked in with no risk of falling out, right?

This is the space available with a Hightower hanging over a RaceFace pad with a BakFlip cover on the 5 foot box.

    Tarekith,
Focusing on your comment "easy to remove" ... "put on by herself the few times we need it". I installed a kayak hoist. Removal and storage is easy.

Consider Ride 88 in lieu of a tailgate pad if you are looking for an option that you do not need to remove after every ride.
