A few months ago a good friend of mine sold his Tacoma and sold me his Magnuson supercharger. I saved a few or a couple $100 dollars from getting it anywhere else and shipping and tax as well. But now I've been on the fence. Should I? The Only reason I've been hesitant to install, is the possibility of me selling or trading in my Tacoma and either going 3rd gen (doubtful) or seeing the 4th gen and saying let's do it. Also been looking to upgrade the suspension and a few things to revise and refresh the truck for me. Looks like I need to soul-search a bit to decide whether to get off the pot or just get another generation. So many factors to try and figure out what's best. Decisions, decesions.

I have been thinking about that too. Would love to add a supercharger. But really do not want to run premium fuel all the time. Plus the cost of everything.

How many miles? If you have it already, want it and have the money then I would go for it!

You've already got it. Why not?
Unless you need the money, throw it on there.
I'd recommend a different tune than the stock Magnuson.
I believe OTT does a tune for them.

How used is the supercharger? If you’re not sure, factor in the cost of a rebuild as that has happened to several people recently buying a used one thinking they would save some cash.

I added up all of the upgrades I was planning to do to my 1st gen and I ended up being better off selling my 1st gen for $15k and buying the second gen I have now (that has a supercharger).

If you're considering another generation of truck or even the new '24 Taco, then you don't love your truck (I can't even comprehend that...). With that in mind, you'll likely have the itch for something different until you scratch it.
With that in mind, I probably wouldn't bother. You should probably sell it really cheap....to me.

Actually, I'd really like to try the Pro Charger on mine, but I'd rather focus on paying off my house, lol.

first, the price is the price and it’ll always be the price. You either do it now or you don’t. You can always do it later.

turd gen? Well, ima just skip past that

4th gen? Interesting. That’s not a possibility because it doesn’t exist at this time. It will in the future.

and you know what will? The first model year. You never buy a first model year because bugs.
Better yet, you wait to see other people make that mistake and see what issues they have to determine whether it’s a good car.

and at this point there is few if any info on what a 4th gen actually is.
Besides Toyota press department hand picking Cleetuses only to make TikTok’s talking about how good the stereo knob feels over and over again.

every other high end truck has a wider track accomplished by longer travel control arms to get something for the money.
Toyota said fuck you we’re gonna call it that but give you nothing. The control arms are the same, let’s slap on flares, change wheel offset and call it better.

    for $800/mo. No thanks.
And that’s without the protection of armor.
out of all the expensive new vehicles, it doesn’t look like The One.
Did they finally put some good shit to keep up with what their competitors been doing, and justify the price, like a crawler gear or 4:1 case? No.

but whoa, it has a disconnecting sway bar
cool, so does mine. I disconnected it into the dumpster.
    But wait there’s more
$800/mo car payment to save some MPG because the math maths.
If that’s what you want, do it. Different strokes for different folks.

supercharger doesn’t sound half bad. The 4.0 can supposedly handle it. And you end up with Audi S4 levels of power.
Am I gonna drop that coin now? No. I don’t need it. My truck drives. Done.
Maybe one day if I am rich with thousands burning a hole in my pocket.

maybe if Toyota was to release an SSP on what the truck actually is and not TikTok spam. Stuff like what other mfgs do.
right now it looks like an IFS Tacoma. Nothing different. No portals. Same shit. I already have an IFS Tacoma that costs less. It works fine.
there isn’t even an ability to test drive 4th gen’s now.

You don’t lose anything by not supercharging it for a year or two before you decide what vehicle you actually want regardless of what it may be. It runs and drives.

you know what actually comes with stuff for the same money? A gladiator rubicon. Not a first MY either. Not to mention Bronco, Chevy, Ranger, GMC, etc
without having to do significant costly changes.

saw a video of 4th gen vs 3rd gen put around a car length on him 0-60. Whoa amazing, worth $20k extra. Not sure how many car lengths a 2nd gen SC would do.
in its defense guy may have been using the less powerful engine variant 4th available to him for testing.

$40-50k on a truck and still not covering any mods doesn’t sound ideal. Like a steel bumper. That’s not gonna be cheap. And probably won’t play well with “sophisticated new electronics”

I hope it’s good, better, and worth higher cost. But not everything goes that way. Example: turd gen

I wonder if it changes what ideal gear ratio is
    For power, economy, RPM

N/A on 35’s I plan to go 4.88 as that seems ideal.
I would guess it would not be if it was S/C, which may be another expense to think about, relating to it.

Fwiw I’m on 32s with stock gears. I also tow a small travel trailer and that’s really where you see a difference

I wouldn't do it if you're planning on getting something else but I have no regrets with mine. I've owned my truck since 2012 and finally supercharged it last year (after buying the supercharger the year before that). It's like a different truck really.

I was going to regear because the truck was a dog on 33s (it's also heavy and I tow a 3,500lb offroad trailer). I'm glad I didn't regear before the supercharger because I'd likely go with 4.30 now instead of the 4.56 that I was planning on.

honestly, a procharger + methanol might be the move. im not impressed with how much hp the usual maggy blower adds. its decent but nothing amazing. in any case, why not take your sweet ass time with doing your homework. measure 92 times, cut once =D

given it’s at least $5k to supercharge

why not do an engine swap instead and end up with a diesel or V8

whether that be a Tundra V8 or something else
Potentially even getting something that already has that stock instead for the same price or cheaper and other features 2nd gen’s don’t have

Used Audi 3.0T supercharger is like $300. $5k+ for that doesn’t sound great.

Do the supercharger. Fastest and easiest way to wake these trucks up. You will most likely be putting more power down than the 4th gen especially if you do a proper tune and some minor other mods.

You're either going to pay someone a lot of money for a swap or spend a bunch of your time working on it and...what's your time worth? I'm not sure anyone has swapped a motor for less than it cost to bolt on a supercharger kit that was designed for this vehicle.

There are a couple swaps in process here that have been in the works for a year now and still aren't done. A home mechanic can have a blower installed in a weekend.
