I'm looking at the mods and.minor changes I can make to my new TRD pro but I just want to add a little more go when I step on it. Is chiping the ECU the right choices? Please let me know or your thoughts, thanks!

There are no "chips". Only tunes. But yes, get a tune.

That question is a can of worms, I’d advise to just do a bunch of searching.

    Which ever tuner is closer.
KDMax and OTT are the 2 hot ones right now. OVTune is original that started it.
I have had OVTune on my truck for 2 years and am switching to KDmax soon.

They are all really close in performance, which is soooooo much better than the factory tune.

If it was an issue you would see people complaining about it on here. These aren't turboed sports cars where dealers are on the lookout for crazy tunes blowing up engines.

The only way you could mess up your engine bad enough for the dealer to suspect a tune is to blame would be to write your own tune that makes the truck shoot fireballs at 3000 rpm or for it to hold gears until you hit redline

I’ve had half a dozen tunes and just reflashed back to stock. Most are all the same with slight variations of tip-in. Keep in mind that almost all of these tunes are made by random dudes with a laptop

Go ask a machine shop about tuning. Lots of their business comes from blown engines running too lean for improper tunes that people added.

What was your reasoning for going back to stock? Kind of considering doing this once I get my regear done (at least to see how it is), but I dunno. I do like the way it runs on the tune I have, but the random dude on a laptop thing has always sorta bothered me in the back of my mind.

Haven’t seen any failures though, which is why I haven’t really paid too much attention to that aspect.

Thats part of it, every tune has had some quirks i didnt like, too much tip-in, gear lock, I even had a tune that held gears too much to the point I was governed out in 4th because the truck refused to shift to 5th but at the end of the day they all felt pretty much the same overall.

I reflashed to stock and truck feels the same as the tunes minus the quirks. Instead of having a truck learn on a stock configuration the reflash allowed the tranny to learn a super heavy truck on 35s with 5.29 gears so its adjusted well.

Do you have experience with this situation? A lot of Tacoma owners have tunes and haven’t had any issues with warranty or repairs. Also I haven’t seen any posts on issues caused by a tune…..

Not sure why you’d pay top dollar for a Pro and then tune it. Why not just buy a faster truck from the factory?

I'd go bottomless chips, from Chilis and you can change the tune up from mild - moderate.
