    Hey guys,

I tried trading in my 2010 Tacoma for another vehicle. The dealership ran a carfax on the vehicle and found that it had a title that says "Exceeds Mechanical Limits".

They told me that lowered the value of the vehicle. After some research into this...I'm pretty sure the Tacoma isn't limited to 99,999 miles before it reports 00,000.

I've looked at the carfax and the mileage seems in order with when it was purchased and vehicle servicing:

    Sold - 95
    First servicing - 4,453
    Second servicing - 10,232

    etc etc

So...my question is...how do I go about fixing this issue? It seems as though there's some answers out there about older (80's...90's) cars...but I wasn't able to find anything (after a quick google search...nothing too in depth) for newer vehicles.

I'm not sure what you're asking but it appears that the CarFax is only showing 2 "services" on the truck; I'm assuming both were at a dealer. I believe only when the dealer puts in a service record is it deemed "official". IF that's what you're asking I don't believe you can fix it BUT when I traded in my '00 Sierra the Toyota dealership asked about the servicing I showed them my service record & it was 7 or 8 pages long and that sufficed. I even had to prove to them that the timing chain didn't need to be replaced after 100K miles.

did you buy the truck new ?

sounds like when the title was transferred to you the wrong box was checked off about the reading on the odometer.

i have had it happen before but it was on a old vehicle i did not care about.

I would call the RMV/DMV whatever it is called near you and ask them about it and what if anything you can do to fix it.

What I was trying to explain with that was that there seems to be a legit trail showing how the truck has increased the mileage and hasn't been over the 99,999 miles point....at which older cars were known to have the odometer go back to 00,000. That made reading the mileage unreliable.

I bought the truck with approx. 43k miles on it. In the 2 years I've had it, I've put about 20k on it. The previous owner had the truck serviced at regular intervals of 5000 - 10000 miles.

So...basically what I'm asking is how can I get the "Exceeds Mechanical Limit" off of my title? Basically dispute it. Obviously our trucks wouldn't have the need to have the miles reading roll back, therefor no need to have that on there.

The dealership I was working with seems to think there was a clerical error.

    Here ...
Mot likely previous owner replaced odometer... hence Exceed Mechanical Limits.
Did people sold you this not reveal this ?
