PNW here as well. I've read a lot of tire threads and still haven't decided yet what my next Taco tire will be either. I'm curious about the new Cooper Road+Trail AT. Sounds like it should perform better in the rain than other AT tires. I had Coopers discoverers on my 4runner for awhile and had no complaints with traction in some pretty dicey conditions.

I'd make sure you are okay with the new Falken Wildpeak AT4W tire weights. A lot of those new sizes are HEAVY!

I've had BFG KO2's and they felt a bit scary on ice/compact snow. They weren't "bad" for me in the rain, but not great. I've run mud terrain tires in Cooper STT Pros. Those tires scared the crap out of me on ice/compact snow. I never had a problem with the STT Pros in the rain and standing water though oddly enough. Maybe that's because the huge voids that let water escape before hydroplaning. I wanted an AT tire that handled rain, snow, and ice better. I went with the Toyo AT3 in the LT flavor this go around. I like them just fine in the rain/standing water. I've yet to get to try them in snow or on the ice, but they should be better than anything else I've run so far.

I’m in Northern California and I’m about to replace my Duratracs with some AT4’s. Really liked my Duratracs but after about 40k miles on them, they are starting to spin and slide some in the rain. This is my excuse to go to 285’s so I’m pretty excited!

Take a look at the Falken Rubitrek. It's just about the same tire as the AT3 but less price. It has the same warranty too. I believe it is the same tire except for the center lug is a little different than the AT3. I put a set on my Tacoma and they have handled the rain and snow really well. Sam's club has them at $175 each compared to $198 for the AT3. I have had mine on for about 2 months and I am happy with them. They are louder than the stock tires but that is to be expected.

I wholeheartedly concur with the Wild Peaks doing a phenomenal job in the rain.

XL tires and this morning’s drive was craaaaaazy. Where they are stout stable is when you hit an unsuspecting pool of water. WOW! The Taco plows right through it in very stable form, even at highish moderate speeds.

    Good stuff.

I can vouch for this. I have a half mile dirt road that leads up to my house and it is so washed out rutted and riddled with huge pot holes because of all the rain and snow. My wife and I have pruises to daily drive and modded tacoma and 4runner. The pruises are parked because they cant make it down the driveway, I tried driving one down it and crushed the engine oil pan. So in the mean time we are offroading everyday to get to the paved road which is fun. But man if I didnt have mud tires on these things it wouldnt be very fun. When late spring comes im going to dump a few thousand dollars worth of gravel on that road.

PNW near the Canadian border, I've got Wildpeak AT3s and they've felt really good in the rain. I run 265s which are really good at cutting through snow too.

    A few.
People seem to like the schwalb tires. I put a set of AT3's on my RV and I am psyched with them in rain and snow. I have Geolanders on my truck. Nitto Ridge grapplers have had my attention. I like that the AT3's are 3 peaks rated though.

being from the PNW, you likely heard of and have a les schwab tire center nearby, maybe not?

anyway, i have their open range AT on my tacoma, stock size. performance in wet and dry is very good. performance in snow is OK. they were easy to balance and are very smooth and quiet on the road. i have about 15K miles on them and they are wearing good. when they wear out i will likely buy another set.

schwab tends to be more expensive but you can find them on sale. i buy from them because i really don't have another option within 50 miles, and it is convenient for me to have them rotated and balanced at no cost. places like costco and discount tire will almost always beat them on price by a wide margin. my $.02.

My Lexus GX460 came with brand new Defenders on it a couple of months ago. First snow in the morning I slid sideways in the driveway coming in with them.

    Afternoon wasn't any better

The next day ordered AT3 and TRD Pro wheels for it. Much, much better. I didn't notice any difference in road noise even with my hearing aids in  The AT4 shouldn't be that much difference in road noise but time and others will tell for sure.

When I retired from the Navy 29 years ago first gig I had was a consulting job with Michelin North American Headquarters in Greenville, SC. They liked my work well enough that they gifted me a set of LTX tires which were great. New ones not so much. I still like Michelin because of that, but not in this case the Defenders provided more excitment in the snow than I care for. If I lived where didn't have just 6 weeks of piss poor sledding of the year they would be a great tire.

I am on my second set of AT3Ws. First set was stock OR size and got 60k miles out of them. Could probably use them for another summer, but wanted deeper tread for winter snow. I went up to a LT255/80/17 size this time and while heavier and E load, they still handle the rain/snow well.

^Do they seem heavy to you? I'm considering going up to this size but realized today they are 10 lbs heavier than the stock sport tires..

Rain_Couver B.C. here and wet traction was a major consideration. After years with Michelin's Defenders on my previous vehicles, I was looking to try an A/T for the first time. Had Toyo Open Country AT III's installed 2 years ago. They are SL, one size up from stock. Said to be good rain traction. Also, wanted highway comfort for multiple summer road trips to the cabin 5.5hrs inland and light off roading. So far so good.

Not long after when I first got these tires we had damaging atmospheric rivers with some localized flooding. Tires were great. Lots of heavy rain events since. Recently it was a dry mild winter. But not long after we had a deep freeze then lots of snow. Then it warmed up and it's been heavily pissing rain since for days on end. Here is a very small clip of a portion of my commute and the conditions I'm driving through daily. Even more rain is on the way. Anyhow, tires seem to be good in the rain.
