My cooper discoverer st Maxx tires are very chopped after just 30k miles. Truck is lifted 2 in in the front with icon coilovers. It also gets an alignment every 6 months, and it is well within spec. Tires have also been rotated every 5k miles. I do not understand what could be causing this rapid of tirewear. Any ideas?

Your alignment is in spec when you arrive at the alignment shop?

Can you post your last pre and post alignment numbers?

I don't have the numbers but it was within spec. I go to Firestone for the unlimited alignments so I just go as a precaution every 6mo since it is free. I think it may be a tire pressure issue. They are load range e and I run 37lbs in them.

    Chopped; as in cupped?
More than likely, it's suspension related. Could be underinflation...
    What size and psi?

If Firestone is doing your alignment I can almost guarantee it is not within spec. Especially the free ones. "Set the toe and let it go" make them give you print off with numbers. Here are my alignment specs and I did this alignment myself. I do not have adjustable upper arms, I'm still stock and these were the best numbers I could get. I would like a tad more caster but the split is what's ideal. Truck is straight as an arrow down the road and tires are wearing perfectly flat. I actually got some times from craigslist that were take offs and cupped and that have worn down nice and flat.

    Sounds like faulty tires.

I'm having a hard time believe it's any suspension component. Truck has 32k miles on it and has had icons for 25k of that. no leaking seals, it rides the same as it did when I installed them. I can believe that Firestone could be slacking on the alignment. I would think 37psi would be on the high side for load range e tires on a Tacoma. They are 255/85r16

Air pressure will only change where the tire wears, not if they feather/cup. Over inflated and it will wear mostly in the middle and leave the edges newish. Under inflated and you'll get excessive wear on the outer tread leaving the inner tread newer.

Suspension components would include ball joints and bushings.
25,000 miles on 2" of lift with a 58 lb tire(50% increase over stock); you're going to get accelerated wear. ETA: Rebuild interval on those shocks is usually around 25K...
    Aftermarket wheels? Weight? Offset?

36 is the adjusted recommended psi for that tire.

Pics would help; people tend to conflate tire wear terminology. When you say "chopped", I think cuppped or scalloped; which is usually suspension related.

I had the same problem. 25K and they were unbearable. I rotate every 5K when I do the oil change. the cupping was so bad. Had one tire pro tell me it may be underpressure related. always ran 36psi in front, 30 in rear. Just changed over to the New Mickey Thompsom Baja Boss A/Ts. Its like a whole new truck. Quiet, smooth ride, even the wife commented on how nice it was to ride in the truck again.

I just looked up reviews on tire rack and it appears there is pattern in the real world with the tires:

I got 40k on my set, but they were bald and loud when I pulled them off. I have never got much more then 40k on AT/MT tires of any brand.

Pictures of your tires would definitely help to narrow down the potential cause. I have about 20k miles on my current without issues and ran a set for about 35k miles on my heavily loaded 2nd gen before selling the truck and they were still in good shape.

Scalloped tires usually are shock related.
