Tire with squiggly line behind it

First off, I got my truck yesterday. So far, I absolutely love it!

My only concern in the whopping 65 miles I have racked up on her is this. I was sitting at a light today on a hill. The truck is an automatic. As the light turned green, I felt the ruck rolling back wards before I got on the gas. Once I hit the gas, it felt like a bike where he chain had slipped off the sprockets. It just kind of clicked.

Disclaimer: as soon as the clicking started, I let off the throttle so I don't know to what extent it would have continued. I let off then got got back on the brake and then repeated. Second it worked as normal.

Now I think the tires with the squiggly lines behind it is some sort of traction control. Why did this engage, if that is what actually happened? I'm new to technology controlling my drivetrain so I admit to ignorance if this is "normal".

    Thanks for any thoughts!

Sounds like you got on the gas too hard and spun the tires. Traction control will cut power and grab the brakes pretty aggressively and make some strange noises while its doing it. Was it raining out? Or was one back tire on a manhole cover or some other low grip surface?

Honestly no. I'm 37 and drive like I'm 87. That's what was so confusing about it. It felt like it just forgot to go into gear until I hit the gas and by then it was too late.

That's completely normal. It thinks it's slipping if it rolls back. So the traction control kicks on limiting power to the rear to "gain" traction. No need to get off the gas. It'll stop pretty much as soon as you start going forward. A lot of steep hills around here. So mine kicks on once in awhile if I'm not quick enough to the gas.

Oh, that makes sense. I have an MT so I guess it doesn't happen like that for me.

That's so weird to me that that's "normal". Is what it is I guess. This is my first vehicle newer than 01. I guess I'm behind the learning curve.

Yeah. Little different with an AT.
It's not a bad thing. It's just the vehicle reacting to the situation. Unless you are constantly letting it roll back on hills, then it won't happen often. It only happens on steeper hills for me and like I said, only if I'm a little slow to the gas.

You'll get used to all the nanny features. I've never had any issues with any of the systems
Don't kick on unless I try to make them work. Except for the ABS. Not sure if it's better on the 16's. But it's something you should test out in the snow. I'm not a fan of it.

I wish I had had it in the snow. That would have been fun.

Denver? Don't you usually get all of the seasons in one day? LOL.

I am in my ninth month here and to this point I have pretty much found that to be the truth. I'm from TN so this climate is totally new to me. Fun, but I'm ready for summer.

Gotcha. I have family in the Denver area. Beautiful land out there. It's been a while since I've been.
