No money, all went to truck...
Hi All, I know there's a bajillion tire threads but I think this one will be more specific.

I'll need new tires soon and here's my situation:
    -stock truck with 16" wheels
    -want AT tires
    -prefer C range over E
-mostly on road, do a little off and I always like the idea of having solid ATs just in case
-I'm in Hawaii so selection is limited. Costco and Sam's club are the usual places I get tires
-I like BFGs but they are E range. I also understand there's strong love and hatred at the same time for the tires. They are my default because they are readily available here and often go on sale.

What do you guys think? Thank you.

I say get whatever looks good to your eye and is the best or cheapest price.
Especially since you're mostly on road.
You might get a huge response and a lot of conflicting and confusing info.
I say just go back to Costco or Sams club and get good lookin and cheap.
    They have warranty.

Aloha. Been a while since I’ve been to the islands. Stationed there in the Coast Guard before the Army invited me to play with them. Came back in 2003 wearing a Navy Uniform. Lol don’t ask.

Things there are unlike anywhere else. I personally would go with something you can get and replace easily first. Second something that you like. Third worry about the load rating. I also know how shit is priced there. Pick the wrong tire and you can’t replace one that gets eaten up and you’re out the cash for four that probably could have bought six or more tires here in the mainland.

    Just my 2 cents.

Absolutely love my C Load Duratracs. They are the most aggressive A/T tire out there. Almost as aggressive as a M/T tire. Buy 5 of them...

Now saying that, my next tire will be an E Load 33" 255/80/17 Falken Wildpeak, only because they dont make a Duratrac in a 33" Pizza cutter size. (255/85/16 or 255/80/17)

Put some Wildpeaks on the wife's Subaru. Liked 'em so much I put a set on my 2021.
Stock size I got no lift and limit any off-roading to reasonable terrain.

Road manners are better than the OEM Firestones, and whilst driving in Monument Valley I
felt real good about how they would handle that stretch. I thought the 'scenic drive' was gonna
be paved or at worse smooth gravel - but I wouldn't attempt it in anything but an AWD or 4WD
    with decent clearance.

Seriously consider moving to 17". You will find a lot more options. Especially in load rating "C". The 16" still exist is sizes that were stock primarily in "E" load for the 3/4 and 1 Ton trucks.

I have had the Cooper Rugged Treks in stock size for a little more than a year, maybe 20k miles, and they have been really great for me. Have been really solid in all weather, on-road noise is low, haven't done much off-road but they have been great on dirt/muddy roads, plus I think they look pretty cool. If I remember right they aren't super expensive either (think they sell through Sam's Club)

Definitely Duratracs, also move up 1 size to 265 75 16. Perfect size for Kaneohe.
KO2's will starting humming at 15k, Duratracs at 25k. I have 30k on mine, no complaints. Rotate every 5k, keep pressure at 33-35.

Screw gas mileage, get the BFG KO2 E rated tires. I mean on a little island, is gas mileage concerns even a thing?

If things don’t change it’s gonna be $7.50 a gallon after the election. Check back with us after :spending:.

On a more serious note, why would you need E rated if you never go off-road?

Because they don't make C rated KO2'S in a 16 inch size that I am aware of and the OP said he likes the BFG AT tire. There are definitely plenty of C rated tires in the 16 inch size. Sounds like the OP is after looks more than function.
