On both sides of the truck my tire Rod jam nuts are frozen. I’ve tried heat and PB and no luck. The outer can come off. Any tips? I’m struggling. There’s like no rust on the outside but must be a little bit on the jam but treads. 2007 double cab. Just had an alignment 4 months ago so I can see why they are stuck

Have you tried a pipe wrench?
Maybe 2 of them. One on the rod the other on the nut.

Why do they need to be loosened if an alignment was just done 4 months ago?

An alignment shop over tightened the jam nuts on my tie rods and the nuts & tie rod threads were damaged. I had to replace the tie rods. And they flattened my cam tabs on the frame also. I was pissed, but now I have upgraded cam tabs and new tie rods at my expense. Yay!!!

    1) What's a tire rod?
    2) I didn't know peanut butter worked to loosen nuts
    3) Not sure what a jam but tread is, sounds interesting though

Just kidding. Heat from acetylene/oxygen torches should have surely been enough to break it loose. Did you heat cycle the nut? Heat it to orange, spray with cold water, then try to remove it? I would not think it is rust related unless the alignment shop 4 months ago did not have to adjust the tie rods.

Sorry I wrote that quick. Guess it’s tie rods xD. I used a propane torch. Do I need to heat it for a longer?

You won’t melt a bolt with propane.

I use MAPP gas, it gets hotter and heats stuff up faster.

    I misread it.

Put your hand up there next to the boot every once in awhile. If it’s hot you know to stop. Yeah that’s a caveman way of testing it. But it works.

Or buy a cheap laser thermometer and check it that way.

Or wrap the head/boot with a wet rag.

Take it to the dealer and pay for them to align the truck. Let them deal with it.

I would not be surprised if they come out and say the nut is seized and they can’t align it.

    1 can of areokroil

Spray a bit around and on frozen nut once every 6 hrs for a day or two.

Vise grips on non threaded area of tie rod that has flat spots to keep rod from spinning.

    Loosen nut

Clean threads with a wire brush.

Put back together with lots of antiseize n call it good

The outer rod will come off. Can I take that off. Hold the inner and zip the nut with an impact? I’ll count the threads and make sure that inner does not move
