Ok, I know the "which tire" threads are getting old , but from my searches, I have not seen much in regard to size 255/70/17.
I just purchased a set of 4R pro rims and want to match them up with some new tires.
I still haven't completely ruled out 265/70/17, but was wondering about options.:deadhorse:
I just want to take any chance of rubbing out of the equation.:crapstorm:

I have read thru the pizza cutter thread regarding larger skinnier sizes.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-skinny-on-skinny-tires.529656/

and, I have read every single page of the KO2/Pro rims ad nauseum.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/17-trd-pro-rims-and-bfg-at-tko2s.426902/

However, looking at the specs for the 255/70/17's, they are much closer in size to the stock tire and will fit on a 7" width.

    About my wants.
    1) I don't really go off road at this time (2X4), but occasionally will have to drive down uneven dirt roads to go car camping. So I am looking for a mildly aggressive Off road tread, more so for the look.
    2) I will likely use my truck to haul a car carrier as I have a 67 mustang convertible that I will be restoring and will be need to be towed. I don't really load the bed down.
    3) I drive locally only a few miles a day, but when I leave town it is mostly highway driving, so road noise is an issue. I want fairly quiet tires with a comfortable ride.
    4) Bang for the buck....but I think we can all say that. Don't mind spending a bit more if it really means longer tread life.:spending:

The current stock tire on the truck is the Toyo A30 Open Country M&S that are
rated at a max load of 2337 lbs. Pretty abysmal.

Here are some tire options in this size: Based on other threads, I am leaning towards either:
    Cooper Discoverer AT3
Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure w/Kevlar (another Taco stock tire)
Michelin Defender LTX M/S (if I stay away for A/T and go for wear-ability alone)

Any other opinions based on this link? (I know go with 265/70/17 and don't worry:argue:)
KO2's are out...too aggressive and only in E rated

Here is a comparison chart for both offset and size comparison for anyone interested: Stock Sport +25/4R Pro +4mm Stock 265/65/17 vs. 255/70/17

    Thanks for reading my ramble:cheers:

I think AT3 or Michelin would fit your need. Goodyear is great too but I dont think it worth for the price.
I just order Hankook ATM 255/70r17, I saw mix review on it so I am not sure. I will report back when all in.

I kinda skimmed over most of that. But ive had 275/70/17 on 4runner pro rims no lift and i had minor rubbing on mud flaps. Then i lifted the truck 2” and still had rub had to remove mid flaps which eleminated the rub completely. Then after that i realised E load rides very bumpy especially for a daily driver it got annoying real quick. So just recently swapped to a 265/70/17 C load with no rub at all and much smoother. I would recomend staying away from E load tires if you are not a hard core offroader. c load is muxh more smoother and lighter. Thats my 2 cents! Tires are Ko2s AT

I agree. Cooper AT3 is the winner in my book

    Thank you.
I looked at the Hankook tires and read some good things about them. Would like to hear your experience

Not exactly what you were looking for. But close.

I put on 255/75/17's and love them. Had about a 1.5" lift before they went on.

I am very happy I went with tall and skinny.

My tire weight was only 43lbs; my stocks were 38lbs.

I removed the front flaps since these photos, and have not had any rubbing. Prior to that very very very minor rubbing on the front flaps when turned driving up inclines.

I'm curious about these also. Especially road noise.
Tiresize.com lists them at 37 lbs

If those are really 37lbs that would be a great weight. But how meaty looking are they when mounted...I wonder.

Cheap and OEM, they're FJ steelies.. talk to your local Toyota dealer.
Bonus points they are ET15 instead of ET30 so they stick out 15mm more.

I was curious about bridgestones. The Duelers. Not much to find about real world experience with our trucks.

True weight in my scale 37.5lbs...and i'll be doing the white letters out (my truck is white so I think it would look ok).

I have them on my 5 lug pavement pounder. Like them a lot. I do some sand/gravel trails as well, but of course not 'real' off road.
