    Hi all,

I own a 2012 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I want to disable the TPS receiver "brain box" cause the TPS light is on solid on my dash. I suspect one of the wheel sensors is duff. Since I find this system a "nice to have but not necessary" I want to disconnect power to the box itself. Where is this box located in the truck? I have looked under the dash and in the engine compartment but no luck.

    Thanks

I believe there was a thread about it being in the headliner, up near the middle of the rear window. If I can find the thread, I'll edit my post and link it here.

This does not disable the TPMS entirely on 12-15 trucks. There is a second TPMS module in the dash behind the radio and TPMS uses both to operate.
You might be thinking, "Well we'll pull both out and problem solved."
    Not so fast, young man.
Turns out old man Toyota connected the TPMS modules to several other systems on the truck and they are needed for those other systems to work correctly.
AFAIK no one has successfully disabled the TPMS on a 12-15 trucks.
Options for dealing with it include:
    -PVC "pipe bomb"
    -ignore it
    -put tape over the light

A solution I haven't seen anyone try yet is to remove the LED for the TPMS indicator. Might work, I dunno.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Somewhere I read that it was located under the headliner near the drivers head or behind. I can not find that or any other source. Seems like a really strange location and I never had a need to find it so I'm just throwing out an idea.

    Never mind....

    Thanks Ghost.

I figured old man Toyota wouldn't make it easy. I've been using option 2 for about 6 months now. Time to upgrade to option 3 {:0 ).

No problem. If you do happen to figure out how to disable it successfully, I’m sure there are a lot of people that would love that info.

Does anyone know if the TPMS receiver unit, the one located behind the radio in the dash, shares functionality with being a key-FOB receiver unit? The key-FOB receiver board is missing in my truck (probably due to a accident repair) and I am hoping it might have an effect of fixing my TPMS also.

It's a lot easier and makes a lot more sense to just put working sensors in your truck.

    Amazon.com: MORESENSOR 315MHz TPMS Tire Pressure Sensor 4-Pack | Compatible with Lexus & Toyota Select Models | Replacement for 42607-33011 | Clamp-in | NX-S008-4 : Automotive

I've had these in my 2007 for 2 1/2 years now, these will fit your 2012 as well. There was no extra charge to install them as I was buying new tires. I've had to install them on other vehicles in the past and was charged $10/tire.

$60 every 10 years or so is cheap insurance and I can confirm they work, probably saved my life.

The sensors aren't there to replace your air gauge. You still have to check the tires just like any other vehicle. What they are designed to do is warn you of a sudden tire deflation while driving. Twice, once in my Tacoma, once in another vehicle, I ran over unseen debris in the road and punched a sizeable hole in tires. Both times the warning light came on and gave me just enough time to get stopped and onto the shoulder of the road before the tires went flat.

Without working sensors I'd have had tires go flat and come apart on me while driving 70+ mph. Not something I want to do.
